No, I don't think I've ever seen this allowed outside of IRROPS

You will need to be confirmed for a flight before being waitlisted for an upgrade. Also, you will need to call to apply instruments - airports can't do that anymore.

First time use of a RPU...+1 and myself have just checked in for our flights on Thursday evening where we are waitlisted using our RPUs. Due to the fact that we connect from another airline from Europe and the fact that this airline has checkin open already >24 hours before their flight, the system is allowing us to checkin >48 hours before departure of the UA-flight we used our CPUs for. After checkin I checked the upgrade waitlist, however we are not showing there.

Wondering about the reason I checked in our travel-companion who is Premier Gold, and much to my surprise (he is still outside his upgrade window of 48 hours for a CPU) his name shows up as #1 on the waitlist after checking in...

So is this something to worry about (in terms of the RPUs not applied the right way) or is this just normal as the RPUs have not yet moved over to airport control? Thanks for any insight you may have on this!

Greetings - Dirk

Did/do you show as waitlisted on united.com prior to checking in? If yes, then likely you are not proper checked in with united and it is worth a call to united. There has been issues in the past when you are the waitlist but don't show on the gate list ( the list you can see under flight status).

I think so, yes. It said (and still says) "Upgrade requested".

An more indication? As to boarding numbers on the boarding pass, I am number 1, wife is 2 and the friend (that shows on the upgrade waitlist) is 3...from that I would guess we are checked-in correctly. Just checked again(now within 48 hours of departure), and we still not on the list while our friend is still number one.

United.com problems

I have been having problems with .bomb and I was wondering if it is just me (i.e. a user problem) or if others have the same problem. Not only is the website incredibly slow to load, requiring that I often reload the page, but for purposes of this particular discussion, expert mode seems to turn on and off at random.

When I try to search for R>0 to see if my GPUs will clear, often "Fare Class" is not a hyperlink so that I cannot see the availability. If I go to manage my profile, turn expert mode off and then turn it back on again, the Fare Class link reappears, but it seems like I should not have to do that every time.

Any others having similar problems? If so, have you found a better solution?

You need to uncheck "Remember Me" on the home page and log-in to Mileage Plus anew for each session.

Yes I have been having the expert mode turning off/on at random and when it is off the Fare Class does not show. But, this is the easy bit, just assume R0, RN0 and you are good to go. :)

There is a weird "half logged in" state on united.com where it will show you your name at the top right of the screen, but most actions (clicking on a link to "view my itinerary" from the list of itineraries, for example) will trigger a login screen. If you do a fare search while you're "half logged in", Fare Class will be missing.

To fix, click 'sign out' in the top right, then sign in. ("Sign Out" clears your state and takes you to a 'signed out, type number and password to sign in' page, so it's basically like a "sign in" page!)

This works because managing your profile requires signing in. If you go to 'manage my profile' and don't change anything it will also work (because you have to sign in). But it's slower than just clicking 'sign out' and signing in.

Login state seems to decay within about 4 hrs — so if you were doing a search a few hours ago and you come back to united.com and it seems to recognize your name, don't trust it. I reflexively sign in now if I've been away for a while.

CAN GPU and/or RPU apply to award tickets?

Only if you're GS. I would kill for this benefit to be extended.

Only for Global Services members.

Alas, you are probably right. My IAD-FRA flight next week shows R0, but the same flight the preceding day shows R9 :(

I will try the "sign out/ sign in" approach next to see if that works. Thanks for the suggestions.

Eureka! I tried it and it works!

That happens to me when I'm logged in, but not fully logged in somehow. Usually I sign out and sign back in before searching.
