I had a flight cancel last week due to weather. I got my RPU back immediately. Who knows when the fare will be refunded to my credit card. I've called UA twice and both times was told, "It could take weeks".

Good to know. Kind of pissed because this is my last flight of the year (barring anything unforeseen) on PS service and was really hoping to burn them on BF in the 752s.

They're selling almost all the BF seats through buy-ups at check-in. Very few upgrades getting processed on the ps flights these days. It's a huge change from a year or so ago, when you could almost always SDC into open R at T-24.

Yup - had I not cancelled my PS trip this week, I was hoping for the $299 upgrade on my outbound, would have been a better deal than 20K miles + $250.

Sure my offer would have been higher than for the Kettles though.

Sponsored GPU - Split PNR?

Going to have 4 travelers on one PNR but 2 will be upgraded (R space available) via sponsors GPU.

Do I need to split the PNR into 2 and 2 before having the GPU applied?

Thanks!

yes -- all or nothing on a PNR for upgrade requests.

Gee I can see lots of R RN space on JFK-SFO v.v flights for quite a few dates No problems with Regionals clearing instantly, also had ON seats on SYD-SFO v.v nabbed both with 2 Globals for July and September Also Globals on LH Lots of C to F space on LH and so easy to use a global Grabbed and confirmed instantly for FRA-EWR also could have done FRA-JFK on A380 but incenveneient as I need to connect next day EWR-YYT Speaking of 2 regionals burned EWR-YYT and v.v
Only problem is on LX Cant use Globals and SAUA seem limited on LX So called miles and More and had a C to F upgrade confirmed instantly for SFO-ZRH
Go United!

This is not consistent with my experience or most others on this forum over the past year.

Oh OK Well Ive never had a GPU or RPU or MUA or SAUA (SAUA even on LX!!) not clear - I choose my flights based on upgrade availability and am flexible for a day plus or minus my preferred travel date It also helps I find to be flexible with departure/arrival times I think of late its actually improved on ua.com Same thing last jluy-august september and also last novemeber JFK-BOS vv JFK-SFO, SFO-SYD
I like to confirm my upgrades at time of ticketing on long routes so use the expert feature on ua.com

My first post!

How often do GPUs clear for SFO-TPE, TPE-SFO? I applied them for a trip staring at the end of the month, from PHL-SFO-TPE (and the return TPE-SFO-PHL). So far, only SFO-TPE has cleared out of the four segments. There seem to be a lot of empty BF seats from TPE-SFO, but also quite full in E+. I'm 1K btw.

Thanks!

If you book 6+ months out, I've found it's not too hard.

Also, the 6am and 8pm flights ex-JFK seem to be much easier.

YMMV of course though.

Welcome to FT!

That's a relatively easy route, although any flight can be difficult on a particular day if bookings are high. What's your return date?

I'm not disagreeing with you on either of those two limited points, but UA's policy respecting ps upgrades has changed fundamentally in the last year. UA is now extremely stingy with R on the ps flights. Most flights, they simply will not open R, even with a wide-open BF cabin. They want to both (i) sell those seats through buy-ups, and (ii) force elites, particularly business travelers, to pay for BF rather than relying on instruments for the upgrade.

The policy change would be much less offensive if UA were consistently filling the BF seats at full fare. They're not. Many flights the cabin is half full (at best). But they'd rather sell those empty seats to a GM at check-in for $229 than let a 1K burn an RPU. For those who fly ps frequently, this change in policy is near the very top of the list of elite-unfriendly moves this management has made.

doverflyer - Welcome to FlyerTalk. :) I agree with Kacee. I have started flying this route every few months. Upgrades with GPU Y -> C have always cleared, often at booking. The plane (B777) is often full in coach though.

Return is June 5th I believe. I booked the flights about a month and a half ago with the SFO-TPE GPU clearing about 2 weeks ago. I suppose all I can do is just wait it out and hope they clear as the flight gets closer?
