Thank you! that is so disappointing to hear. Do they also not do complimentary upgrades?

I've tried to give away my upgrades (I'll still have extras after this trip...) but they always feel bashful about taking them.

If you have enough miles, you might look into the availibility of getting business award tickets. You can cancel your current award ticket without penalty, as you are a 1K. Or you can cancel your award ticket and buy an upgradable ticket.

On domestic flights UA does, not on International.

no they don't, unless you have one of their credit cards.

The OP says they are 1K so think they would be eligible for comp upgrades whether or not they have the CC - whether they would actually clear may be another story :)

Backstory: Last year, I was able to acquire a ton of miles and reach 1K with United. I switched jobs and will no longer be traveling. 2015 will be my last year with 1K status. I have the standard Global Premier Upgrades available.

This summer, I will be traveling to the Philippines. I bought the tickets using miles and would like to use my upgrades toward these flights. Is that possible? ...

Ah, that's good to hear I can cancel - did not know that otherwise I would've bought it months ago when Business tickets were less pts than the economy ones I bought. I'm still keeping an eye out on it in case something else pops up.

I don't have enough miles as I'm buying to round trip tickets...

Correct - I should have quantified my statement more.

RPUs

A family member is looking at using an upgrade for me.

I have looked at the united site, and it says connections of 24 hours are allowed if travelling outside the US and Canada.

My itenerary is

YYZ - DEN (arrive 1800)
DEN - CUn (depart 1100 +1)

Will one RPU suffice for the entire trip, or will it want two?

Most likely two. The traditional break/stop for upgrade certs is 4 hours domestic and 12 hours international max.

Thats what i thought, but on the United site it says

"Stopovers require multiple upgrade products. A stopover for a single, one-way trip within the U.S. or between the U.S. and Canada is defined as longer than 4 hours in the connecting city. A stopover for a single, one-way trip to or from all other destinations is defined as longer than 24 hours in the connecting city."

Interesting -- I believe that is new wording. The non-domestic policy has been under speculation since the merge and there has been conflicting experiences discussed in this thread and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...read-wiki.html, so this is a very interest clear statement that (I believe) has not previously existed.

The language is the same on the UA GPU page as well, so I read this as one has the ability to spend 23 hours and 59 minutes(i.e. less than 24 hours)to make a connecting flight on an international itinerary. I do like how the url has swupgrades in the address.^

Would like to travel from EDI (Edinburgh) to EZE (Buenos Aires) with ONE GPU

Hi - Rookie question:

I would like to travel from EDI to Buenos Aires and upgrade. I have 2 questions:

(1) Can I do this with one GPU?

(2) Most flights route through Houston. Would I be able to take a stopover here for a night?

Thanks in advance

Can You Apply RPU/GPU At Another Airport

Flying AAA-BBB today. Can I apply an instrument to be added to waitlist at CCC if AAA and CCC are coterminals?

bmr12 Mar 16, 2015 7:19 am

Why don't you just call instead? Also, R space must be open if the request is within 24 hours of departure.

dparkinson Mar 16, 2015 7:22 am

No R, so can't call in, but I could've sworn I've been able to waitlist at the airport if F>0 but R=0
