Is it still possible to upgrade Europe-US-Brazil with one GPU (right Fare class given). This connection is not mentioned in the table on ua.com.

How many GPUs can be further extended before they get expired at the end of January 2014 and usually how long it will last? Anyone did it last year? I remember couple years ago PMUA allowed 1 SWU to be extended for another 6 months. What about the New COdbaUA now?

Since the current policy extends them anyway (compared to previous 1 yr expiration), I have been told they won't extend any more/further. I have seen similar reports by others too recently

I have an international MR this weekend with domestic legs to/from the international gateway (L fare throughout), GPU waitlisted on the final domestic segment. I was just able to OLCI for all flights, a whopping 54 hours ahead of the last segment. My BP does not have the "added to upgrade standby list" notation and my name is not currently showing on the list. The flight went from F2R0 to F1R0 once I checked in, but the mobile site list shows the cabin booked 10/12.
Would it make sense to call UA at T-24 ahead of the final leg? I'll be on the ground on a layover at that time. Or should I call sooner? Does the dropped-from-waitlist glitch kick in at exactly T-24, or at time of check-in if sooner? Is it possible that my check-in put that one missing F seat into inventory purgatory? |
I am flying JFK-SFO-SAN shortly. Used a RPU to upgrade.
Cleared from SFO to SAN, but JFK to SFO is waitlisted. I do not want to waste the RPU if JFK-SFO doesn't clear. Since the flight is J1 at present and I am "only" a Platinum these days, it seems unlikely I will clear. How should I handle this to preserve my RPU if JFK to SFO doesn't clear? At SFO ask them to clear my confirmed upgrade? At JFK once I don't clear (that seems tough to do since the agents will be busy closing out the flight). Ideas? |

Add the short haul only after the transcon / long haul has cleared. |

Right at T-24, I got an e-mail cryptically-entitled "United Airlines Waitlist Notification for Confirmation XXXXXX". The body said, "We're pleased to let you know that your request for an upgrade from Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) to San Francisco, CA (SFO) has been confirmed. If you've requested an upgrade for another flight in this reservation, we will notify you separately if it is confirmed." I was then able to select an F seat in the UA app, and I showed as confirmed on the list. Even better, on the day of departure the metal was downgauged from an A320 to an A319, and for the first time ever I wasn't booted out of F! ^ Maybe this is off-base, but I can surmise that when I checked in prior to T-24, the reduction in F inventory by 1 was indeed a seat being held back for me. The actual clearance process was inhibited until exactly T-24. I'm not sure if it would have worked the same without the UC agent's help. There's also no comfort here for when the upgrade doesn't clear at T-24. But the process in this case exceeded my (very low) expectations. |
I’ve read upthread and think I understand what my plan should be. Does this appear correct?
Mrs mwc8962 (1K) is flying PVG-ORD in Dec, with GPU applied to UG from BF to GF (waitlisted). Flight is currently F2, ON 0. Step 1. Check for ON>0 periodically from now until T-24. If ON>0, call and ask for GPU to be applied. Correct? Is resistance ever met on such a request? (And if it is, politely HUCA?) Is it possible to execute online? Step 2. If ON>0 hasn’t appeared, then check specifically at T-24 since ON may be more likely to open up, at least if it’s not F0. Same questions – if ON>0, call and request for GPU to be applied, correct? Possible to do online? Many thanks. |
Multi-Segment RPU Question
I'm traveling early next week from SFO-EWR-PVD and the flight from SFO-EWR currently has no F seats available at all so I was planning of using one of my remaining RPUs and wait-listing for it. Problem is EWR-PVD has upgrade space available, and if I apply the RPU to that entire one way trip (as you can't apply an RPU to only a single segment) it will be "used" even if the SFO-EWR segment doesn't clear.
My question is... if I wait until I get a CPU for the EWR-PVD segment (which should happen at least a couple days in advance given the space available now) if I apply the RPU after that will it still count as "used" because of that second segment clearing or would it then only count as "used" if the other segment clears? Just wondering if anyone has any similar experience. |
Can you use a RPU to upgrade a voucher paid flight?
I checked and didn't see anything based on my search parameters.
|
yes. anything booked in a revenue fare base can use a rpu.

Four of us - two Global Service members, two Gold - traveling ORD>CDG next Aug 30, returning Sept 4. I'd like to use 8 GPU to upgrade us round trip to BusinessFirst. What is the best time to book the tickets (the earlier the better?) for upgrade chances, and in what fare class (the more expensive coach price the better?), and would using miles&money instead give us an upgrade edge over GPU? Does UA give preference to money because it wants the $$? Should we make the reservation 2/2 (that is, one GS member with one Gold on two separate records) rather than all four on one, in case upgrade space opens up incrementally, i.e. 2 open up at a time?
