The criteria listed for the Airport Stand-By List only shows Status and Fare Class. It does not say Time: "This standby list will clear after check-in is closed, and is based on Premier status and fare class." That is why I wonder. Then, if it is Time, is it the time you check in (or get moved to the Standby List from the Reservation Wiatlist if you have not checked in) or the time you originally waitlisted?

The Reservation Waitlist does say "All travelers on waitlisted Global Premier Upgrades, Regional Premier Upgrades and MileagePlus Upgrade Awards: Sorted by Premier status of the redeeming account, then fare class and then time of request".

The gate list tiebreaker is your sequence number, which is based on time of checkin.

I will make that decision when time comes. For now, focus on United. It is too close to not go for it.

Understandable.

I'm more than a little irked that UA unilaterally revoked some of the benefits Million Milers used to enjoy (including one that was promised for life) so my take on the value of Million Miler is a little skewed these days.

Mrs. EX and I have 8 GPUs left which of course expire Jan 31. I called and asked if they would extend two for one day, so that we can apply them to a flight on Feb 1 at 8 a.m. Not possible:td:

Did you call MP service center? That's who seems to be doing the extensions.

Yes I did. Agent told me she would ask the supervisor and came back saying it wasn't possible. I can handle the exit seat and it's most likely our last paid flight ever on UA anyway.

Yes

Well that's just a weird random denial considering all the reports of extensions through March/April for 1Ks who requalified. I guess you've gotten validation of the decision to quit UA for good.

HUACA... many reports of extensions granted to FTers. No harm with calling then calling again until you get the positive nod.

There is a thread for the extension question: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...an-2014-a.html but the answer is the same :D

I will do that.

Will the R space vary on the same flight leg if the flight before it is slightly different?

I'm looking at a flight to HKG that would be NYC-ORD-HKG....on one itinerary it shows R4 for ORD-HKG with a 3 hour lay over coming in from NYC. But a few spots below that the same ORD-HKG flight has R0 and that would be like a 1:45 lay over flight coming in from NYC.

to find out the true R space, you need to do segment specific search. in your case, search ORD-HKG segment all by itself.
hypothetically let's say you have two options that when you search by segment you would see:
1. NYC-ORD on flight 123 with R=5
2. NYC-ORD on flight 234 with R=0
and ORD-HKG on flight 456 with R=4;

when you search for NYC-HKG, option1 will show for both segments that R=4 (the minimum across the two flights); option 2 will show R=0 (the minimum across the two flights).

GPU on mixed class itinerary

If I book a ORD-LAX-SYD flight on UA, in the following classes:

ORD-LAX (G)
LAX-SYD (V)

would I still be able to use A GPU on the LAX-SYD sector, or would the non-GPU eligible G sector screw up the whole booking for a GPU?

yes -- but check, the price with V on the first segment may not be that different.
