I applied GPU's for the round trip SFO-IAH-LIM trip. Upgrades for the IAH-LIM segments have been immediately confirmed. But the status for the SFO-IAH segments are "Upgrade requested". When would it be conformed or denied?

It could be confirmed anytime between now and takeoff. The only way you will know it is "denied is when you are sitting in the back and the plane is in the air.

Did you understand what that means? How many miles this year? Lifetime? Award miles account balance? On your old Ford pickup? Just curious what the point was.

I wish. I could trump ALL OF YOU! Bwhahahaha!

Oh, I see. That's very eventful!

RPU usage after check in possible?

Folks, I had not had one of these before and would like some advice from the gurus. I am traveling JFK-SFO tomorrow and I am upgraded to BF via an RPU for the 10:25 AM departure.

However, something's come up and I will have to delay my departure to later in the day. I appears that I can do this online during check in (there is plenty of availability in the flights that leave later and the system is allowing me to change for no fee).

Once I change to a later flight, (assuming R>0) can I still use an RPU? i.e. is there any restriction on RPU usage post check in?

Thanks!

You can do this (assuming R>0) but you are going to have to call to accomplish it. Note that you will not be able to waitlist for the upgrade if R is not available.

I have done similar changes on ps flights half a dozen times in the past year without a problem.

PV_Premier Jan 30, 2014 9:36 am

you can do this, but be cautious. i did the same thing recently and it resulted in a ticket reissue snafu. in the end it was reconciled by an agent at the airport, but it was a little bit hairy.

Yes you can change flights and then apply an RPU if there is R space available. I would suggest you call to make this change and confirm BF space space at the same time, rather than hoping the website will not screw it up.

We're selecting seats for two relatives to whom we gifted GPUs. The UGs have cleared on the international leg and the longer domestic leg but on the first short RJ leg where there's no F UA is offering to sell them E+ seats, $16 to the non-status registered member and $9 for the non-registered flyer.

Is that the way it's supposed to work?

Edited to add: I reversed the numbers - it's the pax without her MP number attached who got the cheaper offer for E+.

Correct. There is no basis for free E+ here. It's not a separate class of service so the GPUs are irrelevant.

Yes as they have no status and hence aren't entitled to E+ (it's not a separate cabin so you can't upgrade to it). You might call the 1k line and get E+ for free if you ask nicely, but you shouldn't.

Thanks for the quick response. Incidentally, I mixed it up above. It's the pax without the MP number attached who got the cheaper offer. :p

I'll correct the post above to reflect that.

Global and Regional Premier Upgrades

I hit Premier 1K status and was awarded 6 Global and 4 Regional Premier upgrades. While this is all fine and dandy, I have recently moved to Kenya because of my work. The upgrades would have been lovely if I still lived in Chicago as I did until last year. It is my understanding that I can use the Global Upgrades on United flights only, and not on Star Alliance carriers. My work travels are almost within Africa and there is no way I am flying United except for maybe one or two flights between Europe and Chicago this year.

This is the first time I have hit Premier 1K, so I have never been in a situation where I have upgrades that I may not use. I hate to let them go to waste. Is there any other way to use these upgrades? I realize you cannot really sell them, but can they be transferred to another passenger? Do people really sell these upgrades?

Any advice from you seasoned travelers is highly appreciated. Please and thank you!

You are free to transfer them and upgrade others as long as you don't get compensated for this.

They are valid on United, united express , and Copa flights only.

On edit..see PV-premier post above about applying them to LH tix above, post 646

On international fares, you must purchase a W fare or higher in order to apply a GPU

GPUs are capacity controlled, ie, the upgrade is not guaranteed at time of booking

While prohibited by United, people do sell and trade them. There are boards here on FT that deal exclusively with that.
