transfer status

Hey all

I currently fly with Delta but have been disenchanted lately, to say the least. On average I fly about 130,000 miles per year... some years more, some less.

I am wanting to move to United. How do I get my status matched? I have written to United through their website but got no reply. So I'm inclined to think I must've written to the wrong department. Does anyone know where I should send my email?

Will they match top tier status? Does United cover hotel rooms even on weather cancellations for the top tiers? Delta does that, which is the SOLE reason I've stayed with them thus far. I've waited to find out United's policy on this when the merge was complete.

Thx in advance.

This page has all the information you'll need about getting your status matched:

http://www.united.com/web/en-us/apps...omoCode=TB8230

It looks like you can only match as high as Platinum rather than 1K.

I don't know about hotel rooms in weather delays for Platinums, but someone else can probably answer that.

When sending the email ask if they will do a 1K Status challenge. 1K match was unpublished last year but when i emailed the match request they said I had to be Delta Diamond or American ExecPlat. It required 35K or 40 segments in 90 days.

I'm not sure if the info is still good since the merge but they had given the following info
We would be happy to consider you for 1K status through our Elite Status Match promotion. This offer is open the members who hold the equivalent status on American Airlines, Alitalia, Czech Airlines, Delta or Eva Airways only.

To get started, email, fax or mail a copy of your most recent summary from one of the four carriers list above only, to the address below. The summary should indicate your current elite status level. If you fax or mail your summary, be sure to include your email address and MileagePlus account number.

Email: [email protected]

Fax: 605-343-4104, Attn: Elite Status Match

Mail:
MileagePlus Service Center
Attn: Elite Status Match
P.O. Box 6121
Rapid City SD 57709-6121

We’ll respond to your request within 5-7 business days. If your status match is approved, we’ll upgrade you to 1K status for 90 days from the date of approval. Here’s what you’ll need to do to keep that status:

Fly 35,000 paid, qualifying miles or 40 segments within the 90-day conditional period.
Qualifying flights must be operated by United, United Express, Continental, Continental Connection or Continental Express with a United or Continental flight number and credited to the member's Mileage Plus account. Flights operated by United, United Express, Continental, Continental Connection or Continental Express that have a partner’s codeshare flight number do not qualify. Flights operated by any other airline do not qualify.
Once you meet the appropriate threshold, you’ll remain a 1K member through January 31, 2013. If you don’t meet the threshold, you’ll return to your previous level of membership.
Members who earn 1K status through this offer are not eligible for systemwide upgrades. Systemwide upgrades are earned when members earn 100,000 Elite Status Miles (EQM or 120 Elite Status Segments (EQS) in one calendar year.
You may earn elite status through the Elite Status Match promotion a maximum of one time in a five year period.

We wish you success in qualifying for a status match.

I highly doubt UA will do it for weather regardless of your tier. You'd need to call to see. As a 1K I've received a hotel for mechanical twice but so did every other flier.

Thank you all for the replies.

That is one of the BEST things about Delta.. Diamond and Platinum fliers get hotels even when it's a weather cancellation. And that is the ONLY reason I've stayed with them till now. Living in NW Pennsylvania, there's a lot of weather issues in the winter travel, which is my busiest time.

Thanks a bunch everyone.

I have flown both UA and DL considerably, and I would say that as far as IrrOps in general, UA, on average, will be fare less generous and accommodating than DL, especially since the merger with many of the stingy CO IrrOps policies being adopted.

Also, this is a very tough time to be making a jump to UA, with many post systems integration problems still permeating the airline.

One of the biggest issues is a huge flaw or glitch in the upgrade process, and dozens and dozens of 1K's have posted their experiences with missing out on upgrades while so-called kettles have been offered upgrades for what is known as "tens of dollars."

The company says this is a "temporary" glitch in the system, but it appears to be continuing, one month into the systems integration.

As an update to this question I posed to you United folks, I wrote to United asking about status transfer. It took them over one full month to reply to my email!!! As a result of that delay, they granted me Premier 1K status for the remainder of 2012. However, when I didn't hear anything in a timely manner, I booked several other flights on Delta. So I really don't think I could keep that status for 2013 considering that we're already 5 months into 2012 and I have booked a few flights on Delta.

But the main issue for me is about the weather cancels: Delta gives hotels to top tier fliers even on weather cancellations. That is HUGE and would be tough to give up.

Thanks to everyone.
