Is the only way to identify V- or Q- Ups through EF? I use KVS for my TOD pricing checks |
Offered GF at check-in from R, NRT-SFO (old style 777) for $959. Dropped to $939 twelve hours later. Declined both.

Is this considered low or normal? I mean, the flight is only 45 minutes right?

Sorry, for tomorrow UA 358. Forgot to include that. There was an upgrade list with one seat available, 7 booked. I was fourth or fifth (I had attempted to use miles with $75 fee) but was offered the "Confirm First" deal, at check-in and passed, but kept checking, and suddenly it was $99 dollars with only that one seat still open. I had to take it. Figured I already had an E+ seat and will get that refunded.

The message I got with the pricing made it seem that if you have status, it would be cheaper. I have none, so am glad to hear it is a good deal. If any of my flights are oversold, I will gladly offer to switch flights. I have nothing to do until Tuesday! Flying 6336 (RNO-SFO), 358 to DEN and 238 to EWR.

In your case, $99 is about the legit one-way differential between your W fare and a discounted F seat (V-up in this case). Of course, as always, this continues to ignore the fact that the V-up has a 21 day advance purchase requirement, and that price shouldn't be offered to anyone inside T-24 hours. |

ORD-SIN paid Z, offered $0 upgrade to F on .com so, um, yeah I took that. Next screen showed a total charge of 30 cents (there are three of us and it upgraded us all). It's only the ORD-NRT leg but I'll take it on a 12 hour flight!
I have the same route booked three times in June, July and August. One they wanted $3,200, one was $230 and one was a dime. Watching the August flights for a TOP (10s of pennies) I get the dynamic pricing logic and understand different dates, different demand. But if I had upgraded with miles it wanted a $600 copay. |
