3 on UG list at check-in; 2 seats available for purchase
Accepted

It appeared to me that the true <> between T and A at check in was $543.

how far in advance did you check in? on app/online or at the airport?

i'm just wondering as 3 seems like an awfully short upgrade list for that flight so i would assume this was well in advance. did you happen to see how long the list was during boarding?

I can picture it now:

"Wow! They didn't bite at $89, so let's charge them 10 times more. Then they'll accept!" :D

You gotta wonder about SHARES algorithms sometimes.

Guarantee you one seat (at least) was sold to a TOD...my PS flight over the weekend, 1 seat available the price was $2,000; a 2nd seat became available and it dropped to $550; back down to 1 seat and it was $2,000.

Fun times.

Maybe UA considers their premium cabins to be Giffen goods.

The 3 people on the UG list was right at the T-24 mark. By the time the flight left, the list was 14 people, so I'm certain I would have been stranded at around #7 or so.

For an award booking, in X, traveling on 7/3/2015:
AUS-IAH on UA463: $149
IAH-DCA on UA487: $279 (1 seat remaining)
Declined both offers. Not a TOD, but don't know where else to post this.

This one is odd. No longer a UA elite.

UA1916 SFO-DEN, 7/22, return of a RT. S fare (total for the RT was $660).

Offered upgrade for $60, took it. Now I'm being offered an upgrade on the same flight for $71. Fare difference between S and P is $139. When I bought the upgrade, the transaction error'd out and I got the red out-of-sync message. Called in, everything fixed, confirmed the upgrade went through.

Now I'm being offered an upgrade on the same flight for $71.

So I get to fly the plane if I take it, right? :p

edit: Hmm. Originally there were two pending charges for the upgrade on my credit card. Neither posted. I still have a seat assignment in F though.

IAD-HNL non-stop, T class, $299. No status. Wow, though in fairness, he told me that there were a couple of seats that went empty, so everybody with a miles or instrument pending must have cleared.

did you take it? Sounds like a fair offer to me for a 10 hr flight and an intl. BF product.

Of course he took it. The feigned guilt, after all.

Just had a similar experience, got a $12 upgrade offer for LAX-SFO. Obviously I took it, but it error'd out just like yours did. I called in and they fixed it. I also have multiple pending charges on my card since I tried it multiple times, curious if all of them actually get charged.

Indeed. Future colleague coming out to the islands to house hunt. He used to live here, obviously recognized a great deal and took it. I did caution him to check his credit card statement....

Now it's offering me an upgrade for $206! :D
