Ha--I never thought of it that way. However, that whole ad campaign makes me want to throw something at the TV (or computer screen). It's insulting to elites who actually *earned* their meager benefits, which are now being thrown like peanuts at anyone who signs their name to a line of credit. If anything, it's bad marketing because it alienates actual United customers.
I always read it as, "psst, hey you! Yeah, you! Don't fly hundreds of thousands of miles like those other saps. Just sign up for this credit card and make 'em look like the suckers they are!"

UA is trying to make a profit from non-elite credit card holders by giving them benefits that are greater than those of a general passenger but considerably less than those offered to any elite members including 2Ps. That is perfectly logical, and most of the benefits do not have a significant impact on the rest of us.

RNE, supposing that many "Bronze" Premiers contribute more to UA's bottom line than aggrieved Silvers.

I think they may have changed when you get the passes. According to the T&Cs on the Chase website:
TWO UNITED CLUB PASSES: You will receive two (2) Club passes after account opening and every account anniversary thereafter. Please allow 8 – 10 weeks after account opening for delivery of Club passes. Please allow 2 – 4 weeks from your credit card account anniversary date each year thereafter for delivery. Club passes cannot be shipped to PO Boxes or addresses outside the 50 United States and Washington D.C. To qualify for this bonus offer, your credit card account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. Valid when presented at any United Club location. Each pass is valid for one (1) guest for one (1) visit. United Club representatives will retain this certificate. No cash value. Cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. All United Club membership guidelines apply. Chase is not responsible for offer fulfillment.

Searched but could not find an answer. I hold the mileageplus explorer chase card and it says the first bag is checked for free. However I am headed to europe and it appears that the first bag checked is free anyways. Does this mean that if I check a second bag I get the fee ($100!) waived? Thanks

Upgrade Explorer Mastercard?
I had the OnePass Plus that was converted to a United Explorer Mastercard. From what I understand, the United Club card is a visa. Has anyone had any luck upgrading an Explorer Mastercard to a United Club Mastercard? Thanks!

I was able to convert my OnePass Plus MasterCard to UC Card MasterCard -- so the UC Card can be either a Visa or MasterCard version.

Did the foreign exchange fee return? On the chase website under terms, it says: "Foreign Transactions: 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars."

My wife just received an offer for the Explorer Card. It offers up to 65,000 RDMs and no annual fee for the first year. The first 50,000 are given after $1000 in spending. That is all we are interested in. If we cancel after receipt getting the 50,000 will we be able to keep those miles?

Just open the card, use it whenever, and cancel after a year when the AF is due to be safe.

I enrolled a few months ago and just got 2 club passes in the mail, so I can substantiate this claim)
Yes, I can also substantiate this claim. I received mine on Saturday. Card open about 2 months so far.

Yes it did. grr! I ran up to British Columbia last month and reviewed my bill yesterday. Was charged 4 transaction fees. We called on the phone before I left and they said (which is contrary to their printed info) that if the charge is run through in US currency (regardless if we were international) then no transaction fee. I was paying in CAD so I don't know if that is true or not.
I am embarrassed to say that it took me entirely too long to wise up to this one and do the necessary to avoid these fees. Basically now I only use a Capital One card, or a Chase Marriott or Priority Club card when charging things internationally - I don't use my Chase MP Explorer at all internationally. Also, I upped my checking account to a Premium account where you need to keep a high monthly balance, but in return I don't get charged any foreign ATM withdrawal fees (used to be $3.50 a shot).
Good luck avoiding fees in the future.
