The call sign should be Varney. Every COUA pilot would get it, it would make Channel 9 even cooler, etc.

My sister-in-law just sent me an e-mail saying it's a Chinese Numerology - Feng Shui thing....October of this year (2011) has five Saturdays, five Sundays and five Mondays - supposed to be indicative of the year of MONEY.
Unusual dates come up 1/1/11....1/11/11....11/1/11....11/11/11 supposed to have same meaning ???

This may happen elsewhere, but it won't happen in 2011 for SEA, according to the Port of Seattle, the operator for SEA. CO's flights won't be merged into UA's gates until 2012, nor will their desks be together.
Not sure what the logic is for doing that or how they choose which CO flights use N vs B

CO has been using N11, N14, N15 & N16 for quite a while. Departures are usually from N14 or N15 with arrivals at the other N gates. The 6am flight to IAH, and the 1035p flight to EWR tend to depart from one of the N gates, all other CO departures/arrivals tend to depart from B. I knw whn CO started flying SEA-ORD tht flight always departed from N. As of late it's been departing from B. Today CO had 4 departures from N 2 to ANC, 1 EWR, 1 IAH and 6 arrivals into N. 2 from ANC, 2 from EWR, and 2 from IAH.

I did have an FA tell me today that there is supposed to be a consolidated operating manual by the end of the month, for whatever that's worth (perhaps not much).

United began the distribution process of the new FAOM yesterday, Monday, November 21, 2011. The new manual is scheduled to become effective on November 30, 2011. The effective date is tied the date United expects to receive their Single Operating Certificate (SOC).
The new FAOM are available at your local Domicile from now thru December 15, 2011. The FAOM packet includes: the new required FAOM binder, the FAOM contents and tabs, the announcement book and the FAIM supplement. Also with the new FAOM, you will receive Bulletin #1 that has the effective date of November 30, 2011 this includes some last minute policy and procedure changes.

During the same flight it was also mentioned that the announcement scripts were new, and everyone seemed to be taking a bit of extra time trying to get familiar with them. (You can learn a lot being right next to the jumpseat in 8A! :-) )
