Significant award chart devaluation effective 15 Feb 2024
Tipped off by a tweet by gleff (who in turns credits the Prince of Travel blog), I noticed new award charts live on TK's website that represent a significant devaluation and raise some questions. Gary claims that the pricing engine is still pricing at the old rates.
For example, an I class award from North America to Turkey goes from 45k to 65k in J, a 45% increase. And the new charts for travel on TK only show prices to/from Turkey--does that imply that prices for travel between two regions via IST will be additive, e.g., JFK-IST-TAS in I will cost 65k + 35k = 100k? The partner airlines award chart still shows prices from all regions to all regions. We've already seen attempts by TK agents to apply additive pricing when upgrading multi-segment itineraries.

The additive nature of this is devastating. 65k+20k to get from the US to Europe 1 when it just used to be 45k. And that’s the saver rate. Plus the fees. Looks like Flying Blue is definitely gonna start getting pounded with redemptions even more than they had been before. VS is looking more attractive now as well.

Wow, is this is true, this is really a big bummer especially with the connections - basically unless you live in IST you are going to connect, so I really cannot understand that logic. But as usual - this is the FF world of miles.. hopefully this will not be the final version.
Cheers!

that's the worst frequent flyer news this year so far ...
on the site is also an explanation how award prices are set up .... instead of a origin-destination mileage value you now have to add segment based prices.
earlier NUE-IST-JFK business promo was 45.000 miles oneway - now it is NUE-IST (25.000 miles business promo) plus IST-JFK (65.000 miles business promo) - and that is oneway
in regular C-award pricing it would be NUE-IST (40.000 miles oneway) plus IST-JFK (135.000 miles oneway) = 175.000 miles (from 115.000 miles previously)
They have gone insane

BTW, they also published new award charts that tell a completely other story ...

They look way better - prices in the award charts are roundtrip prices

I have been expecting a devaluation especially for sweet spots but moving to a per segment calculation seems daft. TK whole network is designed around connections..
As always, earn and burn miles. Thankfully I've very few miles left so will likely look around the other FF plans now and see if any offer better value for me.
