PLEASE LOOK AT THIS LINK TO FIND INFORMATION ABOUT SALES OFFICES AND TK HOTLINE NUMBERS.

Up to date info on TK cancellations and refund/re-booking conditions: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-be/announcements/coronavirus-outbreak/

This thread would continue to provide information about potential border closures, major schedule changes, and any restrictions on TK flights in the future.

Given the fast moving situation please check the TK website. Information in this thread is just guidance and may not be complete or already outdated.

The current situation is stressful and worrying for many of us, please remain friendly and calm. FT members can only give suggestions, they are not representatives of Turkish Airlines.

CURRENT SITUATION ABOUT CORONAVIRUS RELATED RESTRICTIONS

TK and AnadoluJet have resumed domestic flights on 1 June 2020. Almost all domestic routes have been resumed with reduced frequencies.
TK and AnadoluJet have resumed international flights on 11 June 2020. Please consider the short-haul operations and long-haul operations threads for more details on operating routes.

* Be aware that restrictions may change at any time. Please keep in touch with the information of missions in Turkey and information on the Turkish Airlines website if you're planning to travel in the upcoming days/weeks.

Currently there are no restrictions to enter Turkey or to transfer at Turkey. There is also no COVID test requirement for both entering Turkey and transit ( unless you are departing from Pakistan or your arrival country asks for one ) and no quarantine upon entering Turkey.

Some countries have not opened their airports for passenger flights from/to Turkey so Turkish Airlines is not operating to all of their destinations. More information could be found in the respective threads.

Just a reminder that South Africa is shown light blue on the map, however, both JNB, both CPT flights are operating as scheduled this week.

It would also seem that there is some very limited capacity to Tel Aviv and Prague. It also seems that Havana may be operating once a week That's about it.

I apologize in advance as this will be a bit long. I have a problem and i am hoping you all can give me ideas. I bought tickets for my mom and son at the end of february for this summer. My son is 8 years old, Turkish and American citizen. We live in the US. My mom is only a Turkish citizen. Every year, she travels to Houston at the beginning of the summer to pick up my son for the summer and brings him back at the end of summer. I am a single mom so this helps me with care in the summer while my son has vacation and spends time with extended family.
I bought 3 flights. My mom ist-hou in 21may-4june. My son 4june-18august hou-ist. And my mom 18august-4sept ist-hou. These flights can only occur in the summer as there is a specific purpose and my son is in school.
Flights are not cancelled between the US and Turkey. They are only rescheduling until the end of february 2021. This does not help me at all.
They are all nonrefundable tickets. Is there anything I can do to get a full refund? I paid approx $3k and the refund looks like less than $250 for all. If no refund, is there any way to reschedule for next summer?
I plan on waiting since I am sure it is just a matter of days before all flights are cancelled but i found this forum and wanted to see if anyone has any ideas. My mom is over 65 and my son has a history of asthma so travelling is out of the question. Thank you all in advance.

Unfortunately, at the moment, TK only re-schedules flights until 28 February 2021 and it's not possible to transfer it to the next year. So, if the current situation goes on and if it does not get worse, you are out of luck.

However, you could wait until closer to your flight date to make a change in case of any cancellations on the flights or entry restrictions. Also, the rebooking policy could be modified in your favor depending on how the crisis evolves.

Also, TK would probably release a new waiver for passengers older than 65 years old, maybe you would be able to get a refund for her tickets, but for your sons' ( assuming that they are on separate tickets ) would be out of luck. In addition, a reminder, that there is no information about the possible waiver for the elderly, so I can't give you any guarantee if that waiver would cover your mother's travel dates.

1. We have no idea what the conditions of your ticket are, so no one can comment on that.
2. May is awhile away, August and September are really far away, so for all you know, everything might be relatively regular by then.

So as you have surmised, just wait. If they cancel flights, you may be in luck. That being said, as of midnight tonight Turkey has instigated a "lockdown" of people over 65 years old, they are not supposed to be outside of their houses, etc. So if that were continue, maybe you could claim something. But just wait it out, you have literally 2 months until your flights which is really a lot of time.

Thank you both for the responses. I know it is a lot of time but i don’t see anything getting better by may. And even if things got better by august, the flight is pointless at that time. But i am hopeful that there will be new changes. Thanks again.

For those of you who have cancelled award tickets did the call centre waive the $25 cancel fee?

I have several business class limited award tickets MSQ-IST-BUS and TBS-IST-ARN in May and June. It looks like I can cancel online and incur the fee (which isn't the end of the world). Would I be better trying the call centre? Should I wait and see if cancellations are extended beyond April (as I'm sure they will)? I'm hoping I can re-plan the same itinerary for about the same time next year.,

Any insights are appreciated. Thanks.

I actually went to IAD a few days ago and succumbed to my fears about traveling just as I was about to approach the check-in desk. (I knew the trip was probably a bad idea, but had to see the emptiness of the airport to finally come to my senses...) I cancelled through the phone app about two hours before the flight and had the miles back in my account before I got home, but never actually received an email confirmation of the cancellation. The taxes and surcharges were refunded to my credit card (minus a $50/person fee) about 48 hours later.

If the change is voluntary and if there is no active waiver for your destination, the change fee would still apply. You might try your luck, however, be prepared for a no.

Waiting until a closer date to your original travel, would be a better idea.

In addition to what starflyergold mentioned, Mr. İlker Aycı ( TK Chairman of Board ) has announced that,

- They would give a voucher for future travel ( 15% of the actual ticket price paid ) for those who will not cancel their tickets but convert it to open-jaw.
AFAIU: If you decide to convert a €1000 ticket to open-jaw rather than cancel it, they would give a €150 voucher for future travel. ( Maybe taxes would not be included )
- Also, they would give 1000 miles per 10 euros paid if the ticket is converted to open-jaw.
AFAIU: If you decide to convert a €500 euro ticket to open jaw rather than cancel it, they would credit 50000 M&S miles to your account.

Source in Turkish:
Sorry for the bad translation. If I have would be able to gather more information, I would share it here.
