I keep refreshing the SFo location for september and october since we are going to overseas in mid oct. no appointments are opening up. What time of day should I be refreshing?

Global Entry - Interview Availability

Hello - I've done some google searches on the lack of interview slots for processing GE applications after the conditional approval online. I've had some older results and wondering if someone had more recent info.

I am a US citizen permanently living in the UK. I make five or six trips a year to the US and finally applied for GE last month with a view to trying to get card on my next trip in early April. I received conditional approval in about a week but see no available slots in either BOS or SFO in the week of my travel. In fact, I see nothing available at those two airports for several months. Oh, there's nearish Warwick RI but, guess what, nothing there either.

I appreciate people may cancel, and I do check every day for that on the GOES system but I am dubious of something just becoming available in the small window of time I have in the two cities before returning to London. What is the situation with walk ins. Is their any allowance for those who can prove their residence is outside the US and so time for interview at one of the centres is simply more limited. Or is it just case that this is how it is and tough luck.

Thanks for any help.

Take a look at this thread:

Often1 Mar 21, 2016 10:54 am

I have no idea whether this is possible, but as a USN permanently residing in the UK, I wonder whether CBP might conduct the interview for you at the Consulate in London now that GE is available to UK Nationals.

It is at least worth a call to either Citizens Services or directly to CBP's attache at the Embassy. It's entirely possible that they may not have thought about it.

Barring that, all I can suggest is the walk-in, even at a station which says it doesn't do walk-ins. Maybe your story gets a result.

NoTiersForMe Mar 21, 2016 4:46 pm

Thanks TWA for the thread link which indeed has some recent SFO info!

And Often, that is a good idea but I will pre-manage my expectations on the response before placing the call

NTFM

There are also a few BOS reports; here are a couple:

You just have to sit and hope someone doesn't show up so you can take their spot.

There's three of us waiting for a walk-in now. Friday afternoon on Memorial Day weekend was probably not the best choice. One guy who was waiting for his appointment said mornings might be best. He tried to walk in as well and failed but ended up finding a closer appointment time after checking a bit. I'm probably going to give up after waiting for over an hour.

I was in and out within 8 mins. No video, no kiosk tutorial. Just an interview with the regular questions and verification of application info, photo and fingerprints. The kiosk tutorial has been replaced by a bi-fold business card. Received approval email after 10 minutes.

This is my first time getting GE, not renewing.

Thanks again.

The issue I have with the thread respondents are that experience varies so widely: there just seems no consistency with the process. Loads on a specific day and agent's attitude seem just as relevant as any location policy about walk ins.

The reality is I will be in BOS for a very short time, I will simply present myself and see how it goes.

I wish they had it in London, ill keeping my eye open if the few slots open up again. Until then im booked in YYZ (at the Nexus centre) on my next trip there

GOES New Interview Availability

Does anyone know if GOES is real-time, or if new Global Entry interview slots are posted at a set time each day/week?

Specifically, I'm hoping for a cancellation while I'm in the vicinity of LAS so looking for pointers on when to check the site. Currently showing fully booked.

Only have experience with the HNL office, but it appears to be real time for a specific office; openings appear at various times of the day as cancellations occur. People here said youʻll need to check frequently and/or refresh the web page in order to catch the cancellation openings. They were right & it works. Both DH & I initially scheduled interviews for first available (late June 2016) but within a week we each had earlier ones -- late April & early May -- due to slots opening up.

When you log on & select "Manage Interview Appointment" it will take you automatically to the first available opening whatever it is.

Hope that helps.

i checked about every hour or so and randomly. i did however check LAS at one point, they had one last mon and it was opened for a good 6 hours before someone took that slot... wondered if i should send $200 just to fly there and back from LA but decided against it lol. seems like the frequent checkers at LAS is low compared to LAX/LBC.

I started looking around 3 days ago for LAX/LBC to which i found 3 opened yesterday for the coming tuesday... it did all get taken within 1hour...

Leave it open, it will close itself after a certain period of time, i usually let that be a reminder and login to check to see if anything available.

good luck!

jacksprat Apr 25, 2016 9:15 am

Thanks for the advice guys. Took a week of refreshing the page fairly regularly, but finally managed to get a slot during the week while I'm in Las Vegas. Sorted!

SirReadsAlot Apr 27, 2016 10:38 am

SFO is showing the first availability as October, 6 months from now!

NoTiersForMe Apr 27, 2016 10:54 am

Yup - well on it. Booked something in Boston over Thanksgiving, which was just about Boston's only available when I did so a couple of weeks ago. Simply crazy.

What was interesting to note that at SFO when I passed through a couple of weeks ago, I noted the interview centre is through an OPEN door, unlike fortress Boston, and I was able to walk in and talk with CPB guy there who said they do take 2 walkins [and only 2] a day when the office opens at 8:30. He said the queue for that starts at 4:30 in the morning. Shocking.

Is that really true? Why are people saying that they have to wait almost 7 months for an interview at SFO?

himbeerle Jun 8, 2016 9:04 am

Yes, they show appointments open every night starting 6/12. Seems as if they opened up 24/7...

According to their website, SFO is open 8:00AM - 8:00PM, Monday - Saturday https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-t...ers/california. I wonder if evening hours is something new due to high back log of applicants with conditional approval waiting for an interview.

Wow, that is a bit worse than SFO's almost 7 months wait.

As himbeerle said, keep trying, you are very likely to find a spot in the next two weeks.

I confirm that SFO appears to have opened up 24/7. I was able to get a slot for 10:45 PM. The entire 11pm-5AM slots were all open between June 13 and June 14

The change must've happened overnight, as I was checking SFO yesterday evening, and the earliest appointment available was in December. Checked this morning and bam, a bunch of slots open early morning and late evening for the entire month of June.

For many people, it's difficult/expensive to get to/from SFO during the hours that BART isn't operating.

tom911 Jun 11, 2016 1:25 pm

According to SFO, US Customs & Border Protection has announced a pilot program to expand the hours of the Global Entry enrollment office to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The pilot is set to begin on June 12 and run for 60 days, at which time the program will be evaluated.

“Due to the overwhelming success of the Global Entry program and the subsequent increase in applications, CBP clearly recognizes the need for additional interview opportunities,” said Brian J. Humphrey, CBP’s Director of Field Operations in San Francisco.

Maybe this is old news, but I noticed today that SFO has appointments around the clock now. This morning there was an appointment available this Friday. That's gone now, but I see several available between 1:30AM and 5AM on Sunday, July 24th. I rescheduled and got my wife an appt in the late evening in early August to replace her original mid-October appointment.

Thank you for sharing. It has already been mentioned in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...ferrerid=22732

This is supposed to be an experiment for two months started on 12 June 2016.

If you continuously search for a new appointment date and time, you are very likely to find a close in slot in the next two weeks, especially SFO is now open 24/7. Good luck.

FMunroe Jun 28, 2016 12:35 pm

Interesting evolving timeline for SFO. When I started looking for open appointment times in mid-June for SFO, there were a lot of openings in early August. As of this morning the soonest there are any openings is December 4. So in less than 3 weeks, SFO has filled up 4 months of appointments.

As I have watched the trending over the past few week, this heavy load on SFO led me to believe their 24-hour interviewing would continue until not needed. But it looks like they are cutting back hours at the end of summer to 12-16 hours each day. Ouch!

Heads-up that EWR has opened up a bunch of GE interview slots early in the morning and later at night. I just grabbed one for this weekend after 9pm. May also be available elsewhere, I only checked EWR. Every day I checked from 7/2 through 7/31 had multiple slots available.

babern38 Jun 28, 2016 5:32 pm

I was just about to post the same thing as above. EWR was booked out till end of august and now theres super eary 5-6am and after 9pm availability pretty much everyday in july.

I checked JFK and they are still booked out till september

The NYC Bowling Green (?) interview site had been showing better availability than JFK, so that might work for you.

The appointment availability has just been expanded even further at EWR. Appointments all day everyday starting tomorrow through at least July. I just switched my nighttime appointment to a nice late morning one on Saturday.

gundan Jun 29, 2016 1:54 pm

They just opened up a whole # of slots all day in EWR for July/August now.

I just scrambled to get my interviews setup for my wife, kids and myself when I could have waited and scheduled all of us on 1 day.

Oh well.

August slots at SFO (just now!)

For anyone looking for SFO appointments soon, at this moment there are multiple early morning openings August 7, 8, 9, 10. It seems like they must have just added more staff or extended hours. More most of the dates I looked at there have at least 10 or more slots. This is as of 1600 PDT, June 29. Hopefully there will be more here and at other sites.

Try to all go in at first appointment. Many reported success. Good luck and let us know your result.

SFO is open 24/7 for two months since 12 June 2016. Have you tried their early bird specials yet?:)

Fast6 Jun 29, 2016 7:28 pm

SFO - I successfully moved my appointment up a couple months thanks to the 24/7 change. I'm wondering if the 24/7 thing has made it easier for walk-ins...? My new appointment is inconveniently timed, and I'm tempted to make the trip up there late one night or early one morning just to see how it goes.

Checking for Available Appointments

I live in NYC. I applied on June 14 and got my provisional acceptance on July 7. I was able to schedule an appointment at Broad Street for August 15.

I am going to Paris on July 20 and was wondering if it is possible to check for last minute cancellations without giving up the appointment I currently have?

Also, does it pay to try a walk in?

Thanks!

Yoshi212 Jul 7, 2016 7:54 am

Yes you can check for availability without giving up your current appointment.

There is a thread about walk-ins but I don't think you can get into the building in lower Manhattan without an appointment so that's kind of a nonstarter.

SFO Availablity

Was conditionally approved yesterday. Checked SFO appointments and the earliest was 28 Dec 2016. That was yesterday. Today its 2 Jan 2017.

Will keep checking but clearly even running 24/7 for 60 days seems to made little difference. :(

Lock in 1st available, then keep checking for earlier, but once you have one scheduled, there's nothing keeping you from going there for a walk-in (keep an eye on separate walk-in thread).

Finally approved earlier this morning, and I grabbed an appointment in September at DFW since I don't have international travel planned until the end of the year.

I did see quite a few slots at DFW next week for those who are looking.

If your birthday is after your appointment date and before your travel date, reschedule your appointment a day after your birthday. Your Global Entry will be valid for six years minus one day instead of 5 years from your next birthday..

Interesting! Thanks for that. I'll have to check what's available then.
