Rock of Cashel

Rock of Cashel is certainly one of the most famous sights in Ireland. Even from a distance, you can see that it is a special place.

Since we arrived quite late and were therefore unable to join a guided tour, we were given free admission at the entrance. Very nice. Even without a guided tour, there was a lot to see.

Hore Abbey

Next to the Rock of Cashel is Hote Abbey, which can be seen in one of the photos. I wanted to go there, but unfortunately there are no parking spaces at the entrance and as it was late, I had to settle for a photo from a distance. What a shame...

Golden Castle

On the way to the hotel, we passed the Golden Castle in Golden. Inside the ruins is a bust of Thomas MacDonagh. He took part in the Easter Rising of 1916 and was executed. Today, he is revered as a national hero.

Adare Manor

In the evening, we went to the Oak Room, the hotel's 1-star restaurant.

As the name suggests, the restaurant has a rather woody interior, but it is very harmonious and elegant.

The menu

There was only one menu to choose from, which had already been customized for us.I also ordered the cheese and caviar course. Not because I love caviar so much or thought it was worth the extra cost, but because I hate horseradish. We also opted for the non-alcoholic pairing.
Unfortunately, the photo of the wine list from the tablet didn't turn out well, but I think you can see the essentials.

Now for the menu with the accompaniments. I didn't write down the drinks, but they were unusual, homemade beverages.

The bill

Even though the price was anything but cheap, it was a very good meal. I was completely satisfied here.

Cliffs of Moher

The next day, we went to another very well-known destination, the Cliffs of Moher. You park in a parking lot and pay for each passenger in the car. The experts therefore let the passengers out before entering. So there you are, standing in the middle of the road, Grandma Erna gets out SLOWLY, SLOWLY takes her things out of the trunk and so on. A long line then forms behind it. If I had been behind them, the horn would have set a new record.
There is a meditation room at the entrance, with shops behind it.

Then to the visitor center.

Some of the paths along the cliffs were closed. Otherwise, it's quite nice, but I had imagined it to be more spectacular. I found the Cliffs of Kerry more interesting.

Cliffs of Moher

I was determined to see the Cliffs of Moher from the water. So despite the bad weather, I headed to the Doolon pier.

The ride was romantic at first. Sure, there are bumpier rides, but you still got shaken around quite a bit. Here's a short video.
On the way back, we drove more slowly along the cliffs. It was quite nice, but I had imagined it to be more spectacular.

But there were dolphins to be seen, I just couldn't get them properly in front of the lens.

Finally, let's take a look at Crab Island, located just off the harbor.

Doolin

Doolin is a place with a few colorful houses.

There was also ice cream.

It was expensive, but not really good.

Quin Fiary

Quin Fiary is a well-preserved ruin of an abbey in the village of the same name. It is still used as a cemetery.

St Finghin's Church Quin

Right next to Quin Fiary is St. Finghin's Church, also a ruin used as a cemetery.

Adare Manor

In the evening, we went back to the Carriage House.

The carriage in the entrance hall.

More elegant room.

The conservatory, the main dining room.

Prawn cocktail

Quite OK
Seabass Tartare - Avocado mousse, mint pickle cucumber, smoked cream cheese, Thai spiced crisp & lime

Just mentiones it was 22 on the menu but charges with 32. Didnt pay attention

Hake Kiev (again)

Pan roasted Monkfih - Steamed mussles, curgette & basil pure, fish juice & courgette linguine

I liked it
Baked Alaska

Solid
Ice cream

Fine
The bill

It was a solid meal, but the atmosphere was mediocre. Some people seem to treat it as a fine dining evening, and while the prices suggest that, it's nothing special. It was OK for us, especially since the restaurants in town were closed because it was Monday.

Adare

The next day was really rainy. In addition to the included tea, we went to the village of Adare.

Trinitarian Abbey Adare

The former monastery church dates back to the 13th century. Having fallen into ruin, the church was rebuilt in the 19th century.

That day, we had our tea in the hall. For many, it seems to be something special, and we were asked several times if we were celebrating something. Yes, life.

The menu

Please speak louder, I can't hear you!

The tea itself was decent, so there was nothing to complain about. At 75, it's borderline, of course, as you can sometimes get a meal for that price in Michelin-starred restaurants.

The church of this monastery is still in use, and there is also a school next to it.
