I have already mentioned the garden. First, let's take a look at the terrace.

Some views.

A staircase takes you downstairs where you can take a look at the fun house car.

On the lower level, there is a classic English garden with seating and a greenhouse.

Of course you can see the villa.

The pool was unused, which was not surprising as it is unheated. People tend to put it on the lists of the greatest pools, which I can't quite understand. Quite a letdown for me.
You can also eat at the Greenhouse, but not in our weather conditions.

Everything is being hyped at the moment. Yes, the pool is beautifully situated and pretty. But it's also nothing out of the ordinary.

In the evening I was looking forward to the fine dining, which was emphasized. When I arrived at the table, I was amazed at the table decorations.

A glance at the menu revealed that it really did seem to be fine dining. At least according to the prices. 4 courses for 180 and 5 courses for 200 are on a par with many 2-star restaurants, even if you often get 1 or 2 courses more. This naturally raises expectations.

In any case, the dishes were exceptional.

The bread was solid,

the amuse bouche was small.

We chose a la carte, but identical dishes.
It started with lobster with seared leek and potatoes.

The dish was interesting and also good. However, it wasn't at star level for me.
Home-made spaghetti with garlic, oil and chilly and red prawns.

The pasta was okay, but it's not a particularly sophisticated dish either. The shrimps next to it were unfortunately quite dried out and therefore not really great.
Snapper with peas, friggitelli peppers, mixed green beans and white vinegar from Moidena.

Not a bad dish either, but again a long way from star level.
Our desserts

The Mont Blanc with chestnut pure and whipped cream

You could eat. And yes, that was deliberately worded so cautiously. It wasn't anything special.
Peanut mousse with pistachios.

That was generally OK, but certainly not for 24.
The bill:

Although we already had some of the most expensive dishes, our 4 courses were below the menu. So you're probably counting on the guest not doing the math or there are many additional items on the menu. But perhaps they are simply making the portions a little smaller.
Well, I'm starting to get sarcastic. To be clear, the food was certainly not bad. But it wouldn't get a star, and Michelin still doesn't mention it. But you pay star prices for that and that's not appropriate. Even if the ambience (let's leave out the flowers) is right and a piano player sets the mood, it's still very overpriced. In contrast, the food at Villa Feltrenelli seemed like a bargain to me.

Let's move on to breakfast.
On the first morning they took our order and brought us something, they didn't tell us anything about the buffet next door. That could certainly be done better.
The breakfast itself was good, both in terms of quality and selection.

There were also lots of interesting details at breakfast. It certainly won't be to everyone's taste, but it's certainly not run-of-the-mill.

Ossuccio
Even though the weather was very poor, we set off to explore. Ossuccio is located directly on the road, and the church of Santa Maria Maddalena is particularly eye-catching.

Unfortunately, the church was closed, so after a few photos we continued on our way.

Villa Monastero Varenna
Our actual destination was Villa Monastero with its botanical garden. Shortly before we reached our destination, however, it started to rain. Once we arrived at our destination, we first had another problem.

The town's parking garage was closed, for whatever reason. We spoke to people who had their car in the parking garage and they were in an even worse situation. They were not allowed to get to their car and there was no information at all. I still had it good then, I only had to park in a no-parking zone. The hope was that the law enforcement officers were too busy with the parking garage. In the end, nothing happened, everyone did it that way.
The garden itself is not quite as spectacular as it is made out to be, but it is pretty, especially with its view.

The main villa can be visited. You shouldn't expect too much here either, but it is definitely worth seeing.

Without the weather and the worry about whether my car would still be there, it would certainly have been nicer.
