La Rotunda Vicenza
La Rotunda is one of Palladio's most famous villas and was the final stop of the day.

The heart of the villa is the rotunda.

The other rooms are also not uninteresting.

Finally, a tour around the villa.

Esplanade Tergesto Montegrotto Terme
In the evening we had dinner at the hotel again. This time it was remarkable in that there were quite high-quality starters with oysters and prawns.

Gelateria Rome Monselice
We happened to pass this little gelateria. The selection of flavours looked good, and the sealed containers are often a good sign.

80% in Italian, 20% in English, the visibly proud owner explained to me that he makes his gelato exclusively with fresh milk from the region. The gelato was really delicious and is highly recommended.

Castello Este
Next we drove to Este, where we parked right next to the town wall.

There is a small park behind the entrance.

The Castello is basically part of the city fortifications and was closed when we visited.

Este
We walked a little through Este, starting with Piazza Maggiore.

Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie also seems to be interesting from the inside, but was closed.

You don't necessarily have to go to Pisa to see a leaning tower, Chiesa di san martino will do just as well.

Gelateria Vaniglia Cioccolato
I became aware of the gelateria because of a Gambero Rosso sign. The gelateria actually has a Cono.

I found the gelato average. Not bad, but not memorable either.

Santa Maria Assunta Montagnana
The next stop was Montagnana. We were able to park directly on the market square next to Santa Maria Assunta.

The Gothic church is generally referred to as a cathedral, but it is not and never was the seat of a bishop, so it is not a "real" cathedral. Nevertheless, the church is richly decorated.

Montagnana
There was a market in the Piazza Communale and a few interesting houses next to it.

The most historically significant house is certainly Villa Pisani by Palladio. Unfortunately, the house is closed as it is quite run-down. A real disgrace!

Castello San Zeno Montagnana
The Castello San Zeno is part of the old city walls and houses the city museum.

I wanted to visit the museum, but it's only possible with a guided tour in Italian. I was kindly told that my Italian was definitely too bad for that and that I should stay away. The only option was to visit the tower.

Eremo della santissima Annunziata di Monte Rua
On the way back to Montegrotto Terme, I saw a sign for Santissima Annunziata and had the bright idea to pay it a visit. It was only a few metres from the car park and I quickly reached the high walls.

The place was not really inviting. A path led to the entrance.

There I learnt that a visit was not possible. However, men are allowed to attend the 6.30am service in appropriate clothing - thank you very much!

Yes, women are not allowed to enter this mega place, it is a purely male domain. I met several more couples who were also on their way to the entrance, of course also in vain.
The mountain and even the path have been concreted over with walls so that there isn't even a view.

Esplanade Tergesto Montegrotto Terme
It was time for the last dinner at the Esplanade. It was once again decent, although I had imagined mixed fish from the grill to be something else.
