The next morning we started with an Unesco world heritage site, the Dolmen of Antequera. They are a group of 3 megalith burial grounds.
First we arrived at the Dolmen de Viera and Dolmen of Menga, which are located near by each other. Entrance is free.

This 3rd burial ground is located around 2 kilometers from the other 2 Dolmen.

After we left the Dolmen we drove to Malaga. After we found the worst parking garage of the whole trip (more for motorcycles than cars) we first visited the Museo Picasso.


Itīs an old building with a nice courtyard.


The museum offers a wide range of Picassos works, we started in the early years.



After a few pictures I had to learn taking pictures was forbidden. So sorry, no more pictures from Picassos works or the Warhol exhibition.
The Museum also offers an archaeological sight.

Like the most cathedrals in Andalucia the building is impressive to show the victory of the christian enmpire. We entered through a side entrance:

Inside the cathedral there was the usual an impressive ceiling and the usual choir stalls.







As always many side chapels.

We went the th Alcazaba and decided to visit the Puerto de Málaga on the way. Nice but crowded promenade.

Paseo del Parque is a street with an adjected park or the other way round. It It feels a little bit like a tropical world. Even many parrots are clearly audible but mostly unseen.


The street devides the 2 parks.


Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso are quite the opposite from the relative wild park on the other side.

The Gibralfaro is the hill of Malaga. It is home of the Alcazaba and the adjected Castillo de Gibralfaro. We cilmbed this hill "accidently" as I had the Impression the entrance to the Alcazaba would be up the hill, in fact it was at the bottom.....
Nevertheless the climb wasnīt wasted time as you enjoy a nice view on the way

after we reached the entrance and paid our share it was going up again.

You go through courtyards and the nice gardens.




The view from the walls is nice but not as panoramic as from outside.


Inside the rooms is a little exhibition od moorish artefacts.



In the old moorish palace are also the typical courtyards.

At the entrance of the Alcazaba is the Roman theatra, Worth a few views and good visible from the street.

The next morning we were on our way to Cordoba. On the way we stopped at the old caliphate city of Medina Azahara. It was added to the UNESCO world heritage list at the 1st July 2018. So itīs a "fresh" site.
We arrived at the parking space and the visitor center.

It hosts a cinema were they show a short movie about the city and a small museum.



The archive:

The old town is around 2 kilometers away from the visitors center. While there is a parking area itīs only accessable with a special permit. All other visitors must walk (no real sidewalks on the way) or take the shuttle bus. While the site itself is free you pay for the bus.

After a short ride in a full bus we arrived at the site. From the entrance you have a good overview.

You can explore the city with many arches and mailny 2 different areas. The palace area and the residential area.












Unfortunately many areas were closed as they do renovations. The most impressive part of the town shall be the well preserved Salon Rico which was part of the closed areas.
Nevertheless an impressive and beautiful place to visit and a must see if you are in the region.

In Cordoba we found a parking garage which was relative spacious and only a 5 minutes walk from the centre. On our way to the Alcázar we passed the famous Puente Romano

When we reached the Alcázar we were greated by the massive walls.


After the entrance I first went up to enjoy the view. It wasnīt really spectacular.


The rooms inside are not really spectacular even if they have some nice mosaics on display.




Remarkable are the vaults.



Highlight of the Alcázar are the gardens.

Our next highlight was the Mezquita, now the cathedral of Cordoba. It was once the most important mosque in Spain and a masterpiece of moorish art. When you see it first from outside you know itīs not an usual church.

When I entered the church I was flashed. I visited many churches in my life but this is without doubt the most unusual I ever saw. Pictures donīt do it any justice, itīs simply unique.




There are some Areas which especially reminds you that you are in a moorish building. Most beautiful is the Mihrab Nuevo:

They have a small museum


As we all know people tend to do stupid things. In Cordoba they did something very stupid! They destroyed parts of the Mezquita to build between 1523 till 1599 a new cathedral in the middle.




Even if itīs terrible what was destroyed itīs interesting to see how new and old were combined.

You can see it everywhere in the church

Iīm not easy to impress but in this case Iīm very very impressed. Beautiful building and great peace of art.
