Mini Trip Reports
My reports are typically long in style, and usually broken up into different sections, each one that looks at the flights, the food, the accommodation and so forth.
For my short trips, I’ve decided to put together a one post note that will keep everyone up to date with what I’ve been doing, but also saves people reading multiple posts.
These will be more like photo reports, with more images than text.
Let me know what you think. Do you guys want to see more mini trip reports? Or do you prefer full length reports?
Or you could subscribe to my YouTube channel - that would be best for me

Mini Trip Report: Penang February 2017
After checking in at Terminal 1 for my SilkAir flight, I went quickly to the lounge to stuff my face for 30mins.
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
After my rapid face stuffing exercise, I rushed to the gate.
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
A nice small plane to get me to Penang. I think it’s an A321. Am I right?
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I was staying at Mansion One Penang, which was right next to Gleneagles hospital.
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
There was a twin room. The beds were quite comfortable, although a bit basic. Also, this room was not en-suite. Though there was a nice bathroom for guests to use.
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The kitchen area was very useful. In fact having a kitchen with a nice fridge is now something I do consider when staying somewhere. This lets me buy food when I’m out and then store it the fridge.
You can then reheat it if you want to.
The only problem was with the kettle which didn’t automatically switch off. There must have been a manufacturing fault, so we had it swapped out and it was fine.
by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The sitting area was more than substantial, but the tv… well there were only a couple of channels. They were either in Malay or Mandarin so if you don’t speak either of these two, you will need to find your entertainment elsewhere.

Thanks for the encouragement! I look forward to posting more stories in the coming months!
One of the main reasons I travel (other than to keep FlyerTalk readers up to date), is to eat!
I don't post everything on FlyerTalk so feel free to follow me on my own blog or easier still on Instagram

Other Mini Trip Reports
Mini Trip Report: Penang February 2017
I have not been to Thailand for a long time. Last time was in June 2016, and I flew Singapore Airlines, as I was doing on this trip. Though I am unlikely to fly Singapore Airlines to Bangkok for the rest of this year as I found a cheap business class deal on Cathay Pacific, which is also a direct flight, but also I get my BA tier points. If I make a few trips every year, this will make re-qualifying for Silver so much easier.
The flight was early, 9.30 am, so it meant getting up and ready to leave by 7ish. I wanted to get to the JetQuay private terminal with plenty of time to spare.
JetQuay Private Terminal
This was not the first time I have used the JetQuay. That honour goes to my flight on BA16 from Singapore Changi to London Heathrow in December 2016. In fact, as some of you will have read before, access to the JetQuay terminal was one of the reasons I selected the Citi Prestige card (See Which Reward Card do I use?).
As I have written about this before, I won’t go over again too much. One thing I didn’t mention in my previous report as how cold it gets in the terminal. It was so chilly. I spent most of my life in a cold climate and this was still cold!!
Nice seating area for the bears
IMG_2605 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Nice seats. I prefer higher backs to my chairs so when I nod off, my head doesn’t snap backwards!
IMG_2603 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Plenty of seating. (The view from the food)
IMG_2602 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
As before, the food offering was quite average to be honest. Not bowled over. This is an area they really need to look into.
IMG_2601 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Fan Bing Bing sitting seductively on a massage chair. There are two chairs for guests to use. It’s just marketing. OSIM, are hoping that after using it here, you can’t live without one. Chair that is, not Fan Bing Bing.

Singapore – Bangkok
Airline: Singapore Airlines
Plane Type: B777-200
Flight Number: SQ972
Class: Economy
Scheduled Departure: 09:35
Actual Departure: 09:58
Scheduled Arrival: 11:05
Actual Arrival: 10:54
Estimated duration: 2hr 25mins
Actual duration: 1hr 55mins
Plane registration: 9V-SRL
At about 8.50 I went up to the counter and asked about my buggy. I was worried about missing my flight. I needn’t have worried. The flight was running late.
The buggy whisked me from the JetQuay private terminal to my gate within 10 minutes.

Pre-order of a Hindu Non-Vegetarian meal. Very tasty!
IMG_2612 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Really really old AVOD. Can’t wait for SQ to get rid this. I couldn’t watch anything as the screen was awful. My next trip to Bangkok will be flying Cathay Pacific on an A350, so will be brand new (more or less)
IMG_2610 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
It was a full flight
IMG_2613 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Happiest economy? HAHA. Welcome to Thailand.
IMG_2615 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Immigration was quick today. It can be so variable. But, having got through immigration, I had to wait a good 20 minutes for luggage to appear.
IMG_2616 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I quickly picked up a local SIM card. Rather than go for a tourist deal, I just topped up with THB150 and used that for my long weekend. I can’t remember the prices. I’ll reuse it when I come back in about a month.
Finally on the Airport Rail Link. I’ve written a detailed guide: A guide to using the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok (published in 2015 but still very helpful, if I do say so myself
)
The only additional information I would add is that if you want to change your money, do it at the basement level of the airport. The rates here seem to be superior to even those you would get in town.
IMG_2617 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok
This is the first time I have stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Bangkok. Previous places I have stayed at include Grand Mercure Bangkok Asoke Residence, Arcadia Suites, Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit 24 and Centre Point Hotel, Chidlom. There are many positives and negatives with these various hotels, but overall I enjoyed staying at most of them.
I decided to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott, Bangkok, not because it offered a great deal, but mainly because it offered a points earning opportunity that I want to take advantage of. Having become relatively well acquainted with frequent flyer programs, I thought it was time to progress to hotel programs.
Google Maps suggests that from the airport, you should go to Chidlom BTS station and walk…. error!! It is a long walk. Especially if you are dragging luggage. By the time I got to the hotel I was drenched.
Fortunately the check in was smooth and swift. After being quickly directed to my room, I had to jump in the shower. It felt good to be sweat free, but I was still baking from my walk.
IMG_2626 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The hotel has a tuk-tuk service that will take you to both Chidlom and Ratchadamri BTS stations. And will also pick you up. I was never sure on the pick up points nor the times so I only actually used the BTS pick up once.
Now, there are some of you out there who list “riding a tuk-tuk” as part of the Bangkok experience. Don’t pick one up off the side of the road. Most hotels now have this service, so just hop on. The driver is safer than normal tuk-tuk drivers, and won’t take you to some dodgy bar to try and scam you.
IMG_2646 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
To the room. Nice bed. Good size. Over looking the pool. Far better than overlooking road.
IMG_2633 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
TV with lots of channels; which meant I spent way longer here than I should have.
IMG_2630 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Decent closet space. And I had to use the iron and ironing board once! Which I hardly ever do.
IMG_2636 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Normal drinks (there are two bottle of complimentary water on top) offering.
IMG_2632 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Take these are your own risk!
IMG_2634 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I’m not convinced by the window from the bathroom to the bedroom.
IMG_2639 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
View to the pool.

The next few photos are of the restaurant MoMO cafe which is where they serve breakfast. These came from both morning and night time so you will notice lighting differences.
Generally I was pretty impressed. The quality was good and plentiful. It’s amazing how dynamics can change depending on the people at the restaurant. The first morning (Sunday) it was really calm, not much more than a gentle hum. The second morning (Monday), there was a large tour group. And they were really loud. They weren’t from an Asian country, but for some reason they felt the need to almost shout at people on the table next to them.

I realise for some of you first timers, this may not be enough for you, so I recommend looking at my previous post Sightseeing in and around Bangkok. It’s not comprehensive. Far from it. It gives you some ideas as to where to go and see.
The airport is quite far from the city. So give yourself at least 30mins. As this was a public holiday traffic was light. Alternatively, take the Airport Rail Link.
I took a taxi because I was too lazy to walk all around the BTS.
IMG_2734 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The Singapore Airlines door is 5, but it was actually blocked off.
IMG_2735 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Check-in was almost empty
IMG_2739 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Entrance to a terrible immigration queue. It must have taken me 30 minutes to get through immigration here. While security screening was manageable, the immigration was so slow. There just weren’t sufficient people on duty.
IMG_2740 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Fortunately next time I will be flying Cathay business class (click subscribed to see the Mini Report when it’s up) so I’ll be able to use the priority channel.

My last trip to Bangkok as well as being my last Mini Trip Report (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok April 2017), and it’s partly because it’s a city I am reasonably familiar with.
Though to be honest I hadn’t thought of going again, had I not seen a special offer to Bangkok flying Cathay Pacific on Business class for something like S$500. Given then some economy tickets are about half the price, I would be getting business class comfort while also getting my tier points for the flight.
This would entitle me to using the Cathay Business Class lounge at Changi. However, this meant that I had to make a choice: Do I use Cathay’s designated lounge, or would I use the Priority Pass, or would I use JetQuay [I talk about it detail in my report Jetquay CIP Terminal Review – an unnecessary luxury?]. Actually what this really meant, was would I use the Dnata lounge or JetQuay, as the Dnata lounge is also the lounge used by Cathay Pacific for its designated business class travelers. Cathay probably don’t want to invest in a new lounge at Terminal 1 as they are expecting to move to the newly constructed Terminal 4 in Q3 2017.
Usually it would be a no brainer. I would always use JetQuay if I could. However, given that I am paying for my business class ticket, I wanted to make sure that I was getting my money’s worth out of it. I have also used both and actually quite enjoyed using the Plaza Premium lounge (I first used it on BA16 from Singapore Changi to London Heathrow in December 2016). It does in fact seem a bit of a hassle taking the JetQuay buggy service – first world problems!!!
This also wasn’t the first time I flew Cathay Pacific to Bangkok. I actually flew back in November 2015, when I got a good deal. Cathay used to have deals every so often. Now they seem to have deals quite frequently.
The night before the flight I was still in two minds about whether I should get to the airport just in time, or with plenty of time to spare. In the end I woke up at 7 am just got up and once I was ready, left for the airport. By this time, it was about 10am.
Why so long between getting up and leaving you might ask? Well I decided to have a bite to eat at home first, and then I started messing about with the packing, which made everything more and more delayed.
Anyway, as I was packing, I checked Uber and saw that it was only about $1.5o to the MRT station, and then the MRT is only about $2 to Changi so I thought, that seems like such a bargain, especially since I was so ahead of schedule. Sure enough I checked my total fare for the journey was under $4. Amazing!!!!
I mentioned this in one of my earliest posts in 2016 [(Idiot’s) Guide to the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)], that when you are coming or going from Changi Airport on the East West Line, the trains do not go all the way. You will need to get off at Tanah Merah station (2 stops from Changi), cross over the platform to get on the other train (depending which direction you are going). Fortunately I had not been lugging my check in baggage all the way to the MRT station, or else I would have been sweating!!!

Once you arrive at Changi, you actually need to take a skytrain to Terminal 1; just follow the signs and you’re all ok.
IMG_3041 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
It was good to see Project Jewel taking shape by the Skytrain line. Unfortunately, much of the journey is blocked so you can only get glimpses of it.

The Cathay check in desks are immediately on your left, with business class, and then self check in.

These are cool little machines. I want to try it out!!! Since I was travelling business class I went to the manual check in counters.

To get the Cathay lounge (DNATA) you need to turn right after immigration and go up the escalators. Cathay currently don’t have their own lounge, and I suspect the reason they haven’t built one here in Terminal one is because they will be moving before the end of 2017 to Terminal 4.

What is great here, is that Cathay block off two sections, one for premium economy and low tier Marco Polo club members
IMG_3089 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
And then they have a separate section for business and One World Sapphire and Emerald card members;
IMG_3087 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
And there is someone actually there to enforce it.

IMG_3113 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
With the pass to the premium lane, I got through immigration in a couple of minutes; and amazingly the luggage was already coming out when I got to the carousel.
As soon as I got through customs, I went to top up my phone card. Then it was to the taxi queue to go to the hotel.

Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok
As with my last Mini Trip Report (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok April 2017), I decided to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott. Again not because it offered a great deal, but mainly because it offered a points earning opportunity that I want to take advantage of. As mentioned previously I wanted to make progress with hotel programs.

Massage at Health Land Spa
Every time I go to Bangkok, I try to make it for a massage at least once. I was busy shopping and running errands, that for some reason, I only managed to go for a massage once during my 3 night stay.
There are plenty of “happy ending” massage parlours, but I am not looking for that.
I want the traditional Thai massage, and while it may not be the cheapest, I pretty much always go to Health Land. This is chain, and there are a number of branches in Bangkok. This trip, I went to the Asoke branch.
A traditional Thai massage will cost THB550 for 2 hours (about US$16, 12, S$22). Amazing value if you ask me.
IMG_3188 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
When you walk in, there are usually a couple of greeter who will ask what type of massage you want. They will also be able to help you decide what massages you would like to try.
IMG_3185 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
You pay, and they take your name, and you then relax in the waiting area.
IMG_3183 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
IMG_3182 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Someone will call your name (usually over the speakers) and you will be introduced to your masseur.
And enjoy 2 hours of calm.
What is new here is that they now have a separate building which houses the shop. This is fairly recent development (recent as in the last few years).
Jesse & Son
This trip was also the first time I had shirts tailored for me. I chose Jesse & Son in Asoke. To get there:
Below is a pictorial guide of how to get there.

IMG_3158 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I went for a measurement, then a day later I went for a fitting (they finish one shirt for you to try) and then I had someone pick up the finished shirts a day later.
Minimum order is 3 shirts (I think), and there is a price range that suits most tastes.
I didn’t order anything but shirts, so can’t comment on their suit making. They also make shoes, but I’m not 100% certain I would buy shoes from them.
Most likely I will write a separate review on this shop.
Food
Last but not least, here are some photos of the food I ate.

Finally it was time to leave Bangkok after my three nights.
I had pre-booked a taxi to leave at 9am, and it cost a flat THB400. I don’t think it is a whole lot more expensive than if you were go by meter.

IMG_3225 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
It’s great that you get a premium lane card so you don’t have to fight with normal immigration. Unfortunately, the queue at immigration is always inconsistent. Some times it is huge, some times there is no one.

Mini Trip Report: Phnom Penh June 2017
Thank you to everyone for following my posts here. Any thoughts or feedback would be most appreciated, so I can improve my blog and postings in general.
Also I am posting a lot more frequently to Instagram so please feel free to follow me on there as well. You will see photos on my eating life as well my travel life. #myfoodielife #mytravelinglife
I love it when you guys follow me there and make comments on my photos.
Other Mini Trip Reports
This is my fourth Mini Trip Report. Hope you guys like them. Though I confess that I will eventually write more about these separate portions of the trip in other posts. Phnom Penh is not somewhere that I’ve covered previously and is thus worth separate posts. I thought readers would want to see my my quick takes on the city.
Please do let me know what you think. I would also encourage you to follow me on Instagram. Getting followers here and on Instagram really keeps me motivated to write the reports.
My last trip to Bangkok as well as being my last Mini Trip Report (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok May 2017), and it’s partly because it’s a city I am reasonably familiar with.
This time I couldn’t use JetQuay as I had done during my British Airways BA16 from Singapore to London in December 2016 or the weekend Trip from Singapore to Bangkok in April 2017 [you can see my detailed report in Jetquay CIP Terminal Review – an unnecessary luxury?]. This was because I had was travelling a low cost carrier for this trip (Jetstar), and JetQuay doesn’t really deal with LCCs. I’m not too sure why that is, maybe because the LCCs have such strict requirements for luggage weight, cabin baggage, so it might be difficult to police. Anyone have any ideas?
So no private terminal for me this trip. But have no fear, as my regular readers will know, I also have a Citi Prestige card, which gives me access to Priority Pass Lounges in most airport across the world. Bear in mind the big advantage with the Citi Prestige card over other Citi rewards cards is that the lounge access for Citi Prestige is unlimited. Whereas for the other cards (like Premier Miles) you are limited to a certain number of lounge entries every year.
I took the MRT from the Singapore CBD, this time using the Downtown Line to Bugis, and then switching to the East West Line. As usual, when travelling to Changi Airport on the East West Line, the trains do not go all the way. I had to get off at Tanah Merah station (2 stops from Changi), cross over the platform to get on the other train.
IMG_3362 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I arrived at the airport around 6.30pm which gave me enough time to check in, dash into the lounge, grab some food and hurry to gate. I don’t have a lot of photos of the lounge, but you can see them all from my most recent Mini Trip Report: Bangkok May 2017.
Since I had no hold luggage, I just went straight through immigration and to the lounge.

We actually arrived early, and being quite close to the front of the plane, I dashed off to get my visa on arrival.
There are visa forms waiting for you in the arrivals hall. Just fill it all out and hand it to the waiting officers who are seated next to each other. They pass it along, each stamping it on the way to the end, and then there is a payment counter. $30. Easy.
Finally, you need to make your way through customs. This simply involves handing over the customs declaration.
Because I didn’t check in any luggage, I was able to go straight through the luggage carousels and out to meet my ride to the hotel.
iRoha Garden Hotel & Resort
This is my first time to Phnom Penh, though not my first time to Cambodia. Whenever I am looking for places to stay, I always ask for recommendations, and with the advent of trip advisor it has made searching so much easier.
After much searching and debate, I decided to stay at iRoha Garden Hotel & Resort. This was not exactly a hard decision in the end. It’s rated number 1 on Trip Advisor for hotels in Phnom Penh.
Trip Advisor Rank by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
And almost every review was great 5*. I was astonished. So I decided to book it straight away using Booking.com.
Below are a small selection of photos that I have from my stay. The much longer iRoha Garden Hotel & Resort review is here.

Food
I only visited two restaurants on this trip: Malis and Romdeng
Malis
This was on the Saturday at lunch, and I went for the tasting menu which was $30. Not cheap for Cambodian standards. What a beautiful setting though!

Romdeng
Recommended by RP, but actually disappointed by the rather abrupt service. Also the fact they kicked us out at 10, rather than the normal closing time of 11.

Finally it was time to leave Phnom Penh. And I was pretty sad to be leaving the iRoha Hotel, but all good things must come to an end!
The staff recommended leaving the hotel 3 hours before the flight as traffic is unpredictable.
I booked a car, but I could have probably booked a tuk tuk instead. But rather than arrive hot and sweaty, I went for the expensive (and airconditioned) option.
The airport has apparently undergone a recent face lift. Actually a pretty respectable airport. Nice and clean.
IMG_3734 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Unfortunately, leaving as early as I did from the hotel meant that there was quite some waiting at the check in, as it wasn’t open until about 1hr 30mins before departure.
IMG_3738 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
After a quick checkin (no luggage, again) I went through immigration and security, before heading to the lounge. I was really hungry by this point and wanted to eat, so no photos of the rest of the airport.
The lounge was pretty amazing. Huge! There was hardly anyone there so I could choose wherever I wanted to sit.
IMG_3750 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Normally you have to a help yourself buffet. Here you have that, but you also have a chef preparing noodle soup if that’s your thing.
IMG_3753 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
And I got two free alcoholic drink vouchers. Why thank you very much. And a fully manned bar to boot.
The food was quite good and there was a lot of it. As soon as it started to run low, they topped it back up.
IMG_3768 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
After only about 30mins in the lounge, I made my way to the gate, as I saw it was already boarding. When I got there, there was no more passengers at the gate. Shock! I rushed on board, and thought I was the last person.
But no, there were a few stragglers after me.
IMG_3782 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
We took just before schedule, but landed almost 30mins early! Crazy! I spent most of the time asleep as I knew I had to work the next day. I hadn’t pre-ordered food so didn’t bother staying up.
When we landed, we were parked at a far gate but it’s always good to have a walk after a sleep on a plane.
Changi was busy, but I guess that’s good for the Singapore economy.
As soon as I got through immigration I got on Uber and booked a ride out of the airport….. until the next adventure!
Until next trip!!!!!

Whereas for the other cards (like Premier Miles) you are limited to a certain number of lounge entries every year.

penang....i shall return
i think that was one of the new 737max.
penang, i must return perhaps not on a february next time...all the good cooks seemed to have been away when i went there last feb.
so did you find the food as good as it is often touted to be?
so far kl has been the best food experience for me in malaysia, with kk next and penang third best.

After checking in at Terminal 1 for my SilkAir flight, I went quickly to the lounge to stuff my face for 30mins.

After my rapid face stuffing exercise, I rushed to the gate.

A nice small plane to get me to Penang. I think its an A321. Am I right?

IMG_1945 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I was staying at Mansion One Penang, which was right next to Gleneagles hospital.

IMG_1969 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
There was a twin room. The beds were quite comfortable, although a bit basic. Also, this room was not en-suite. Though there was a nice bathroom for guests to use.

IMG_1950 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The kitchen area was very useful. In fact having a kitchen with a nice fridge is now something I do consider when staying somewhere. This lets me buy food when Im out and then store it the fridge.
You can then reheat it if you want to.
The only problem was with the kettle which didnt automatically switch off. There must have been a manufacturing fault, so we had it swapped out and it was fine.

IMG_1951 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The sitting area was more than substantial, but the tv well there were only a couple of channels. They were either in Malay or Mandarin so if you dont speak either of these two, you will need to find your entertainment elsewhere.

My opinion is that Penang is the best place for food in Malaysia. But like a lot of places, it is about knowing the right nooks and crannies to eat at. For example, I don't generally rate Singapore food that highly, but there are some places that are exceptional (and still reasonably priced).
Advice for Penang
- do not eat near Batu Ferringhi; even the local places there which are good, are very expensive.
- Avoid restaurants where you can.
- Try going into the kopitiams; basically shops with multiple hawkers.
- If you are eating breakfast, eat early. The best food can be finished by 9am.
- If you are eating late, don't be surprised if you have to wait a long time for your food.

Mini Trip Report: Bali July 2017
Well, here we are, another Mini Trip report.
Do let me know whether you enjoy reading/looking the pictures.
Previous Mini Trip Reports
This is my fifth in Mini Trip Report series. Hope you are enjoying them!! Please do let me know what you think.
I would also encourage you to follow me on Instagram. Getting followers here and on Instagram really keeps me motivated to write the reports.
My Mini Trip Reports so far have covered Malaysia and Thailand. Now we are moving on to Indonesia and my latest trip to Bali. Last time I went to Bali was in October 2015 (Trip Report: Singapore Bali (Denpaser) on Jetstar (October 2015)).
This was just to see some acquaintances so I am only showing very little this trip and almost no text.

Mini Trip Report: Bangkok July 2017
And here is another Mini Trip report... They've been coming thick and fast but this will be last for a bit.
For those wanting to see my previous Mini Trip Reports
The last few months have been totally crazy for me for travelling. Ive been to Bangkok twice, Penang, Phnom Penh and Bali once. And this is my first Mini Trip Reports of H2 2017.
The last trip I made to Bangkok in May (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok May 2017) was using Cathay Pacific business class. However, because this was going to be a very short weekend trip, I decided to fly Singapore Airlines again, as I did in April (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok April 2017).
This trip comes off the back of my short trip to Bali earlier in July (Mini Trip Report: Bali July 2017).
Unfortunately, this was a very very short trip, so like the Bali trip, I wont have a huge amount to talk about. Instead I will populate with as many photos as possible.
Many of you already know the route, but below is the estimated journey from Singapore to Bangkok and return. Im introducing the use of this map, to add a bit more perspective to the journey. Let me know if you think of better map tools (importantly, they should be free
).

Actual Arrival: 19:53
Estimated duration: 2hr 25mins

Check in was very straightforward especially as I didnt have any bags to check in. I could have just used my phone, but I like to get a physical ticket, I guess thats just me.

On my way to the lounge, I bumped into this fella!
IMG_8932 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
I didnt take any (decent) photos of the lounge this trip, but I have written extensively over the past few Mini Trip Reports, to Phnom Penh (June 2017) and to Bali (July 2017), so I wont make any additional comments here except that it was really really busy.
After a quick 30 mins in the lounge I rushed to the plane, where security and and boarding were surprisingly quick.

We arrived just ahead of schedule which still meant a rush to the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok, but I was at the hotel before 10:30pm.
ibis Bangkok Siam
On my previous two trips to Bangkok this year (Mini Trip Report: Bangkok May 2017 and Mini Trip Report: Bangkok April 2017), I had stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok [see full review of that hotel here].
This time I wanted to try a different hotel in a different location, so went with the ibis Bangkok Siam. I selected it because its near a BTS station National Stadium BTS and also its walking distance to Siam, where you can find Siam Center, Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery.
These photos were not taken in order, but Ive rearranged so you get some progression of the journey from the BTS station to the hotel.

The room was big enough for one person, and I think is comfortable for 2 as well. The fridge was empty save two complimentary glass bottles of water. There are also some tea and coffee for you to use.

The shower area was very very small so if you are bit a bigger, the fit not be ideal.
IMG_8950 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
IMG_8946 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
The hotel is very close to Mah Boon Krong, otherwise known as MBK. I wrote about this previously a couple of years back you can see my review here.
Mah Boon Krong or MBK as it is known among regulars is one of the large shopping malls in Bangkok. When you visit here you will see a mix of both locals as well as tourists who are looking for good deals and wide choices. Bangkok has been experiencing a mall building boom of late but many of these new malls are typically more upmarket and cater less to the ordinary tourist. Mah Boon Krong is one of the older malls (opened in the mid 1980s) and hence the target audience is not at the top end of the shopping spectrum.
It is very close to Siam Square and you can get there by BTS Skytrain at the National Stadium. It is also apparently within walking distance of Siam station but I have never gone from there so I cant really say. At National Stadium BTS, you need to take Exit 4 to MBK Center.
MBK really needs a whole day to wander around, there are shops, restaurants, massage shops, electronic vendors and trinket sellers. There are the standard shops and also there is a bazaar.
Here are some new photos from this trip

And yes, I managed to fit a short trip to Healthland Spa!!!
Every time I go to Bangkok, I try to make it for a massage at least once. I was busy shopping and running errands, that for some reason, I onl managed to go for a massage once during my 3 night stay (you can read all about my Healthland review here). A traditional Thai massage will cost THB550 for 2 hours (about US$16, 12). Amazing value if you ask me.

Finally it was time to head to Singapore. As I had so much time before my flight I took Airport Rail Link from the centre of town to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
IMG_0707 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
You need to go to the top floor for check in. There are only a couple of lifts, so its probably better (and quicker) to take the escalators.
IMG_0726 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
Singapore Airlines check in desks. Very quick.
IMG_0758 by Globe Trekka, on Flickr
After making it through security and immigration, it was time to do some last minute shopping before heading to the lounge.

For some reason I didnt take a photo of the entrance to the Miracle Lounge. This is the view of the entrance from the inside of the lounge.

Mini Trip Report: Penang April 2019
Sorry for taking so long to post another trip report. Maintain photos on flickr was getting a bit cumbersome/tiresome, so I've decided to go straight to video.
These are super basic so I apologise to anyone who is expecting something really amazing videos.
I'll accompany each video with some commentary and locations of places I've been.
This trip to Penang was just to get enjoy some great food and catch up with acquaintances.
The flight was on SilkAir but wasn't a 737 Max as those are currently banned from operating into and out of Singapore.
My credit card gives me a Priority Pass card (+1), so I went to the Green Market, which is in Terminal 2 the same terminal that SilkAir departs from.
It was late when I arrived so no food on the first night.
I ate breakfast at the Pulau Tikus market (at Kedai Kopi Swee Kong) - this is somewhere I go quite regularly and if possible I go every time for the Hokkien mee and then a couple of shop front along the way I have the sui gao.
Then for lunch I had some lor bak and chendol in Georgetown, on Jalan Lorong Selamat. I think the shop is originally called Kepai Kopi dan Ice Kacang (coffe and ice kacang shop).
For dinner, it was the beachcorner seafood restaurant at Batu Ferringhi.
The next day I had sim sum lunch at Fur Er Dai at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah
Afterwards I headed back to the airport for my flight to Singapore
Hope you enjoy the video
I realise these videos are quite basic, but if you do enjoy seeing them I'd really appreciate if you would subscribe to my YouTube channel.
Thanks!
