Hilton Inn, LIT

Hilton Inn Little Rock

The property appeared to be a converted 3-story motel. The lobby is in dire need of a good interior decorator. I was greeted by an employee who did not know how to check me in. In the meantime, another person approached her asking if a certain guest had checked in. She checks her computer and informs the person that another person with the same last name had checked in. After waiting about 10 minutes, somebody finally helps me check-in. She gives me my folio, which included a Hershey chocolate bar, and loudly reads my room number. I had to prompt her to enter my frequent flyer number and car
rental in my record.

On the way to my room, the smell of industrial cleaner is pronounced. The room had a cheap motel feel to it. The furniture
was 70s style. There were black stains all over the ceiling. The bathroom needs recaulking and the tub had a brownish shade
to it. There was no iron and ironing board in the room. I had to call housekeeping to get one.

The next morning, I get a call from housekeeping at 0725. I was being asked to leave the iron and ironing board outside my
room. I almost laughed in disbelief. A USA Today was delivered to my door. However, my hotel bill was not delivered as promised. Check-out was uneventful. Again, the front desk agent was not friendly. She handed me my hotel bill and did not even bother to ask how I liked my stay. Actually, that might have been a good thing. I only had a few minutes left before my meeting downtown.

Overall impression: F. The hotel needs extensive renovation. Hotel employees need to take a course in basic customer service. If you are traveling to LIT, there are other hotel chains you may consider staying at, i.e., Courtyard, Residence Inn, Embassy Suites, etc.

I've had variable experiences in LIT hotels. You can tell that it's not one that's used heavily by business travelers. FWIW, I've had good results (not great, but B+) at the Excelsior. Apparently, that's Bill Clinton's choice of LIT hotels. It's the one where allegedly he...um...made a pass at Paula Jones.

AusTxHiker, Is this the Hilton on College or the one just across the river in North Little Rock. I have stayed at the Hilton on College and 18 months ago it needed repair. I thought they were working on it. I have not stayed there since. I mostly now stay at the Embassy Suites or Courtyard. I have also stayed at the Excelsior, and it is my opinion that, while the lobby, etc., looks good, the rooms are at the point of needing some remodeling and I stayed on the Excelsior Club Level or whatever they call it.

I have never stayed at the Hilton on the river in North Little Rock.

It's the Hilton on College. How's the Courtyard there? Have you stayed at the Residence Inn?

Update: I received a letter from the General Manager of the hotel. He thanked me for my candid comments and apologized for the poor service. He informed me that he only started last April. He hired a new front office manager who he sent to the Hilton HHonors training last week. Finally, he stated that my observations have been addressed with the owners, "who are presently considering renovation dollars."

AusTxHiker: I'v stayed at both the Courtyard and Embassy Suites, right up the hill. Both are very nice properties. Embassy Suites has a Sports Bar that's pretty good, of course, Courtyard has its usual. I have not stayed at the Residence Inn yet.

hotels like this are just buying into the hilton reservation system and rarely are prepared to step up to the plate with the necessary dollars required for renovations and training. they tend to change affiliation every couple of years or so, sometimes because the management company will inspect the property and find it in non-compliance with their contract. then they become holiday inns.

doc: your adam comment made me laugh out loud.

Thanks for steering me away from this one! I wondered why the rate was so low... As far as the Residence Inn in LIT, it's a nice small property (about 90 rooms). The employees could use some training in "Southern Hospitality," but overall a good place to stay.
