Artà

24 Attachment(s)
The city of Artà is not as spectacular as the caves but also worth a visit.
Like many cities on Mallorca Artà is dominated by its castle and the church Sant Salvador.

Ermita de Betlém

Ermita de Betlém is located in the middle of the Parc Natural de la Peninsula de Llevant. The tour goes over a small serpentine road with nice views.

Ses Paiisses

Ses Paiisses is beside Capocorp Vell (no worry, we´ll see later) the most important talayotic settlement on Mallorca.

As I mentioned before Capocorb Vell is another talayotic site on Mallorca and well the more important. You can discover clear similarities but also differences to Ses Paiisses.

The lighthouse was unfortunately closed. A Spanish family climbed over the gate but I´m a coward and not too hot on a discussion with the Guardia civil.

Orient

Another tourist-hotspot on Mallorca is Orient which was voted nicest village sometimes wherever. After a long driver over small roads and serpentines I reached the town. After I passed the village entrance and saw a few houses. After felt 50 metres I reached the village exit. That´s all? OK, I parked the car on the roadside (no real parking lot expect from restaurants) and walked back. Not really a big town:

Coves dels Hams

Last day I wanted to do a boats tour to Cabrera but it was raining! So I decided to do Coves dels Hams. I read before that it´s not as great as they claim, but I gave it a try.
The parking lot is huge! The first shock you get at the ticket office, entrance fee is 21,00 €. Comparing Coves d´Artà is 14,00 € and Coves del Drac 15,00 €. On German we say “Gesalzen”. But let´s see, perhaps it´s the most beautiful cave....
After I bought my ticket I walked down a few stairs. Later I saw that the call it the “spectacular” Botanical Garden:
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7547/2...b2e5cac8_c.jpg
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7517/2...208fa075_c.jpg

OK, I would call it a few stairs, trees and grass. What I reached wasn´t a waiting place... No! It was the round cave!
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7296/2...c1a04350_c.jpg

I couldn´t hold myself after seeing this sensational attraction! But what´s next? The Blue Cave!
https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7445/2...209a8026_c.jpg

It´s a new attraction! After entering the cave which is completely illuminated in blue light. Everyone got an audio guide and was asked to sit down for a movie:
https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7222/2...23c1df07_c.jpg

They presented a movie about the cave´s discovery and the explorer. OK, nice to see, but nothing to write home about. After the movie I climbed the stairs to the next show!
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7636/2...846678d0_c.jpg

In the cave you can see some dripstones, but overall it´s far from spectacular....
https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7310/2...52d7a8eb_c.jpg
https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7530/2...23670425_c.jpg
https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7062/2...d41e7869_c.jpg

The show was titled Genesis and should show the formation of the earth. Even if you apply the lowest scientific standards it had more or less no content. Some pictures, loud music and nothing else.... I did a short video so see yourself:

After this 30 minutes (!!!) visit I should see the main cave:
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7479/2...02436422_c.jpg

Our guide gave a short introduction:

Some impressions:
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7776/2...631700d7_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7114/2...ea8e4964_c.jpg

https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7635/2...c4d075c0_c.jpg
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7491/2...fda6dc9d_c.jpg

As you can see the rooms are relative low. It´s all not uninteresting, but compared to Coves d´Artà or del Drac rather spectacular. They work with many light effects to make it more fascinating, something I dislike. Now came the most interesting room which gave the caves its name. In this room are dripstones, with have a shape of hooks (harms = fishhook, see the guides explanation). No one can explain why the dripstones has this shape and how they sprung up, but they are fascinating.

https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7111/2...0d72676d_c.jpg

Unfortunately all dripstones are behind a fence which makes it rather spectacular....

The following tour was again not bad, but far from magnificent...

The cracks are a result from an earthquake:

Illumination is everything......

Finally we reached a lake and the guide announced a spectacle!
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7005/2...f7162a7b_c.jpg

What´s coming? A fire show? Flying hamsters? After a while a video-show with opera-music started and a lighted rowboat came in sight. Perhaps can someone explain me the sense of this boat? The German people next to me were fascinated and delighted! A cultural highlight! What did I think? Guess! Perhaps I should share my experience with you.... Here the full bombastic show:

Did I promise too much?
Some more dripstones on the way out:

So, how did I like it? Sure, the cove has some interesting parts and is worth a visit. I wouldn´t need the blue cave, the shows and all the lights. Also the price is much too high compared to the other caves.

PMI - DUS

OK, all things come to an end. Also this journey. After I reached at the airport and returned my car I had to learn, that only 2 of 4 elevators worked (bad with my luggage). After some wait-time I finally reached the priority check-in. It wasn´t really empty:
https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7385/2...c07f464d_c.jpg

Otherwise the regular check-in was much worse....
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7489/2...48fc8841_c.jpg

After I passed security I searched for the VIP-lounge which wasn´t properly signposted. After asking a member of staff I found this sign in front of the lounge:

Entrance to Valldemossa-lounge:
https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7414/2...1532e344_c.jpg

Most people used their priority pass to enter. I used my Flex-ticket but have priority pass too.....
The offerings were OK for a pay-lounge:

Surprisingly the sandwich tasted good:

My place for the next minutes:

Glorious VIP-world:
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7607/2...d5442f06_c.jpg

After leaving the lounge I visited the duty-free. The terminal offers quite attractive shops:

https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7740/2...c6cebb71_c.jpg

Guess what´s my flight.....
https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7700/2...2b60f48e_c.jpg

After over an hour delay boarding started. One woman complained that they didn´t pre-boarding, but at a bus-terminal it´s never less not such an important thing.
I really like the A 321 as it has great XL-seats:
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7011/2...93282335_c.jpg
https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7271/2...5bc7cba9_c.jpg

On board not all xl-seats were occupied so they offered other guests an instant upgrade for 35,00 €. If you pay at time of booking it´s 27,00 € (inclusive with Flex-tariff), so not really a bargain. Would call it a dork-deal.
On German it´s more funny than on English:

Some last views:

Today’s meal:
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7291/2...bab59e29_c.jpg

The coke seemed to have a few thousand miles behind it. Simply disgusting with zero gas. I bought the beans as I didn´t know them. They were really tasty:
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7466/2...9294a48c_c.jpg

We landed late and I left the airport at 23:45. A long day......

Time for a conclusion!
Best hotel? Hard to say. Best room was Belmond in my eyes, best over all product Cap Rocat.
Best restaurant? Simply Fosh
Best sight? Very very hard to say! I´m still fascinated from the many great nature views. Sa Calobra, Cap Formentor and Castell d´Alaró in special. Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró was my favourite museum, Coves de Drac and Coves d´Artà were my favourite caves.

Would I recommend a trip to Mallorca? Absolutely yes, go for it!
