As many towns on Mallorca Sóller has a port, Port de Sóller. It´s one of the nicer ports.

Fornalutx
7 Attachment(s)
Fornalutx is one of the most famous mountain villages on Mallorca. Like most of them it´s quite charming, but not as great as you could anticipate after the description in your travel guide. In the village was some kind of festival, so the town center was quite busy with TV-teams etc. Didn´t really understand what´s going on, couldn’t see anything what´s justify a TV-report. After I found a parking-space I explored the village. Over all nice, but can´t really understand the hype....

Thank you - was quite easy. The guy beside her wears a shirt with a text on it. It says "Mia Julia - nackt ist geil - Crew". (Translation: nude is horny). So you know she is not a "normal" girl. A simple Google search and you found all Information, she has a Wikipedia-entry.
She does seem to have quite a following in Mallorca. |
Sa Calobra
44 Attachment(s)
Sa Calobra is a small village and it´s nothing to write home about! Why is it one of the most famous sights on Mallorca? Because the road to it offers some of the most beautiful views on Mallorca and it´s near the mouth of Canyon de Torrent Pareis. Also you can reach Calu Tuent via a separate serpentine road.
First you must know, that the road like most serpentine roads on Mallorca is very popular among cyclists. While some drive on the right, many drive ALWAYS in parallel (often incredible slow), in the middle of the road etc. It´s a miracle that you doesn´t find a cross all 5 meters with “stupid cyclist” and a date on it. Perhaps they only forbid to set up crosses for killed cyclists.... Attachment 9598 On the road you find some really nice view points. Attachment 9599 Anyone needs a new car? I´m sure you can negotiate a good deal and it doesn´t seem to be too much work. But only self-collection! Attachment 9600 Attachment 9601 More great views Attachment 9640 Embassament de Cúber Attachment 9602 Embassament de Gorg Blau Attachment 9603 Attachment 9604 Attachment 9605 Attachment 9606 Nice views every kilometre :-) Attachment 9607 Attachment 9608 Attachment 9609 Attachment 9610 Attachment 9611 Attachment 9612 View of Cala Tuent Attachment 9641 Cala Tuent Attachment 9613 Attachment 9614 Attachment 9615 The German translation is quite funny..... Attachment 9616 They translated slippery with “schlüpfrig”. Schlüpfrig has a sexual touch in German, like obscene. Finally I reached Sa Calobra, were you can left your car on a fee-paying parking space. Also you see the coaches which bring all the tourists.... The bay is full of self-catering restaurants (didn´t take pictures) and it reeks of old grease. Not so nice..... Attachment 9617 Cala de Sa Calobra Attachment 9618 Port de Sa Clobra Attachment 9619 Nice rocks Attachment 9617 Never less the views on the water are stunning Attachment 9620 Attachment 9621 Attachment 9622 Attachment 9623 Attachment 9624 Attachment 9625 Nice resting places Attachment 9639 After a short walk you reach the estuary area were the views get even more spectacular Attachment 9626 Attachment 9627 Attachment 9628 Attachment 9629 Attachment 9630 You reach the canyon through a tunnel Attachment 9631 Attachment 9632 The canyon is impressive, you can walk a few kilometres inside as long as the Torrent de Pareis isn´t carrying water. Those views around Sa Calobra are gorgeous. OK, definitely need to visit Mallorca, in spite of the infestation of stupid cyclists. Yeah, let's ride parallel and block the lane. And they wonder why people run them over.

Mallorca has the reputation of cheap, mass-tourism area, not at all attractive for my needs. I've heard how beautiful and classy it is away from the tourist centers but I've never really heard any details on the different side. It really is a lovely island with lots of areas still unspoiled. Thank you for this entertaining report!

Puig de Randa

Another spiritual centre of Mallorca is Puig de Randa near Algaida. It´s a mountain with 3 monasteries on it. You reach the peak again over serpentine road with some cyclists.
The highest and most important of the 3 monasteries is Nostra Senyora de Cura. First you enjoy a great view from the peak. Attachment 9927 Attachment 9928 Attachment 9929 Attachment 9930 Say hello to some sheep. Attachment 9931 You enter the cura through a gate. Attachment 9932 Inside you find a courtyard, a small garden and a cafe. Attachment 9933 Attachment 9934 Attachment 9935 The church is relative small Attachment 9936 and houses a Madonna. Attachment 9937 The museum offers some artefacts from the region and the old cura. Attachment 9938 Attachment 9939 https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7184/...ee708b09_c.jpg In the middle is Santuari de Sant Honorat. It offers also good views. Attachment 9955 Attachment 9941 Attachment 9942 The building and the church are relative small. Coves del Drac
73 Attachment(s)
Mallorca has many coves and especially some of the most fascinating stalactite caves. The most famous are Coves del Drac near Portocristo. You find the biggest underground lake in Europe inside.
When you reach the site you learn at the moment, that you are in the middle of tourist-Mallorca. In the high-season you wait easily a few hours for a tour (book in advance via internet!). I got a timed ticket for the next tour which came 15 €. At the entrance some busses brought groups of tourists. From the entrance you enjoy a nice view over the ocean. Attachment 10048 Inside the cave you fast see impressive formations of dripstones. By viewing some of the pictures you can imagine how romantic the visit is with only few other people on the (self-guided) tour. Attachment 10049 Attachment 10050 Attachment 10051 Attachment 10052 Attachment 10053 Attachment 10092 Attachment 10055 Attachment 10056 Attachment 10060 Attachment 10063 Attachment 10065 Attachment 10066 Attachment 10067 Attachment 10068 Attachment 10069 Attachment 10070 Attachment 10071 Attachment 10094 Attachment 10073 Attachment 10074 Attachment 10075 Attachment 10076 Attachment 10077 Attachment 10078 Attachment 10079 Attachment 10088 Attachment 10080 Attachment 10089 Attachment 10093 Attachment 10082 Attachment 10083 Attachment 10084 Attachment 10085 Attachment 10086 After a while we reached the lake. On the lake they offer a classical-concert. How romantic and beautiful. 3 boats come in and an orchestra plays 3 music pieces. Great art and culture. All my attempts to do pictures failed due the bad light, but I did some videos. They impressively demonstrate the situation. After this epic piece of art you can choose to do a boat-tour over the lake or walk. I decided to leave the cave this century and walked. Attachment 10087 The cave is beautiful and a must see. I woudn´t need the theatre..... |
Cala sa Nau

Mallorca has many beautiful beaches. Some offers services like sun-chairs and bars. My favourite (of the ones I know of course) is Cala sa Nau near Portocolm. It offers a small bar, a great location and sunchairs for rent.
