I agree it is time to move on from AA191, especially since I think those people would have known they were in trouble when the plane flipped over on it's back just before hitting the ground, live video or not. But I would say that the US airlines legal departments would say no.
Still, if it was UA, it would be at the Captain's discretion, so, as has been pointed out, there could be piles of new threads on FT. More drama on UA!

I didn't think about that, but certainly such a camera could dramatically increase the amount of pain and suffering payout that an airline would have to pay. It's bad enough if everyone dies, but if they all have a couple of minutes to see it coming, bring out the extra checkbook.

We don't like to move on. We've been going through pointless security theater exercises like removing shoes and dealing with baggies for our liquids for years and it doesn't seem like that's changing anytime soon.
The only "security" related protections that have been removed are the inane questions about whether bags have been with us or if someone gave us something to carry on the aircraft.

I can't remember the last time I was asked those questions, regardless of method of check in.
I remember that a while back the e-check in machines were programmed with them, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more.

If any American carrier were to implement this, they'd probably only turn it on at cruising altitude "for security reasons" which would, in my opinion, leave out the interesting parts of the flight.
