Your examples are more of that variety and thus are not applicable. The OP didn't note any irony in what the person said or that the comments didn't hold merit. Just that they were not fitting.
MYOB is still my motto in all but exceptional circumstances. Cheers, Fredd |
thats rude.but there are people who are tactless.
i may just shrug, smile and makes an excuse. There are other things or other people which I persnally know who can ruin my trip or my day, but not with total stranger like him. I hate persons who are insensitive, but I also hate myself for sometimes being sensitive , but now I learned, it pays to be insensitive.... |
What a clown. I can't imagine doing that to anyone, though apparently there are plenty of people who can. I don't know what kind of smart-aleck retort I'd have used, but probably not as good of one as the others posted here.

Why do you say this, exactly? Is one more or less human than the other?

"Well, you're ugly and I can diet.
...and your have a booger hanging out of your nose." |
I usually just tell them to STFU. It's straight, to the point and very effective.

Spread of Obesity Through Social Networks Study Strengthens Link between Virus and Weight Gain Perhaps the stranger who confronted the OP was merely afraid for his own health (she says, tongue firmly planted in cheek). ;) |

iff's mention of fat spreading through social networks seems to indicate the necessity of strangers to point out the obvious... Social checks inside the family network don't seem to work then. I haven't heard about the link to viruses yet -- but it doesn't seem to be far-fetched. I just hope a cure is found (if it's true), otherwise it will be used as an excuse and lead to more weight gain. HTB. |

Or something along the lines of 'I may appear unhealthy, but at least I'm not judgemental and rude. Unhealthy can be reversed more easily' Yes, it's a play on dear old Winston's retort. Please refresh us on Winston Churchill's quote. |
I would have asked that person do they often go around passing judgement on strangers? If so I would hate to think how they threat those closest to them

SJC1K already answered for me. Smoking is something that affects everyone around, being fat affects primarily the person that's fat.

Please refresh us on Winston Churchill's quote. WC: "Yes, Mrs. Braddock, I am drunk. But you, Mrs. Braddock are ugly, and disgustingly fat. Tomorrow morning, I will be sober." (There are minor variations in how it's quoted.) |

Please refresh us on Winston Churchill's quote. It is said that Lady Astor, in one of many verbal jousts with Sir Winston, said "Sir, if you were my husband I should poison your tea!" To which he is said to have replied "Madam, if you were my wife, I should drink it." |

Do you think she didn't know the causal relation between eating ice cream and her obesity? What would a stranger's words have told her that the collapse of the chair didn't?
