Hi,

I have a 22inch Tumi bag (T3 style) that I got as a gift approximately 2 years ago. The extension handle was always a little loose but its gotten much worse lately and is now starting to crack.

I called Tumi and was told I must pay to send it in or pay to have a Tumi retail store send it for me. After this, they will tell me if the damage is under warranty and if not, the cost of repair. Is this common among the experiences of others here? I always thought that the point of spending $500+ on luggage was for the warranty.

Now here's my question, any chance that they'll let me switch to a different model bag? This is clearly a design flaw and I have no doubt that the problem will occur again. I'd be happy to pay the price difference.

Oh, and sorry for the additional luggage thread, however I thought that this is a somewhat different topic than the normal one.

Regards,

Troy

They will probably repair it for you. I don't think they will let you get another bag, unless it can not be repaired.

I think they need to see if it's abuse or not, but they are quite good on their watantee coverage.

They only cover shipping for the first year.

My experience with the "lifetime" warrenty was to pay $25 after bringing the luggage to a Tumi store in the Galleria mall in Houston, be told zippers are not covered and offer to repair the bag for about $200. They returned my bag and I threw it away.

P.S. They did offer me a 20% discount off what looked to be list prices on a new bag.

Several years ago, I brought my damaged Tumi 22" wheeled suiter to the Tumi store at Grand Central. About a week later, I picked it up, repaired. No charge for shipping or repair. They did not even ask to see my purchase receipt.

If the OP is close to either Short Hills or Riverside Square, he might want to bring his luggage to the Tumi store in either one of those locations.

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually currently located in Manhattan and work next door to Grand Central, so I'll give that a shot.

I'm really just frustrated with the design of the bag and specifically the sloped top near the handle. It gets lots of compliments, however its just an awkward handle/briefcase holder.
