g'day
does anyone know of services/websites online that does flight tracking... worldwide or atleast europe. im trying to find something similar to melboure airports website which shows the location of any flights to and from melboune(give a basic graphical but live location of the subject flight). is there a programe or online service that does it?. I've searched the forum but ive got nothing but U.S based commercial flights only.
any suggestions on where one might find information

Flightview tracks the flight:
http://www.flightview.com/
At SFO, the "noise abatement" section gives a 10 minute delay on the entire Bay Area:

AFAIK flightstats.com does not have radar but has a lot of other useful flight information worldwide.

Google earth/fboweb perhaps?
You might check the Google earth forums and see if you can find what you're looking for. I haven't specifically looked for tracking of non-US airports, but some folks have used the fboweb.com tracking service to track all flights arriving ORD, LAX, etc via the fboweb service. Also, I think fboweb offers comprehensive flight tracking if you're willing to pay for it.

Check out this Google Earth Community post. Somebody claims to have developed the ability for tracking flights around Sydney - but I haven't tried it.

Keep snooping around - I'll bet somebody has what you're looking for.
Perhaps this: http://www.openatc.com/ will serve your needs. Claims to offer live tracking worldwide.

I guess the reason why the U.S. has such a service is that the F.A.A. broadcasts this information (ASDI or Aircraft Situation Display Information) while no other countries (to my knowledge) does. You might ask the Australian equivalent of the F.A.A. to see if this data is available and start your own website.

This website is all in Dutch, but gives a very good tracking on Amsterdam Schiphol in Google Earth.

Live flight radar in Northern Europe
Hi!
Perhaps you are looking for something like this:
http://www.flygradar.nu/?language=en
This is a service developed by some Swedish aviation fans. That's why the service is originally in Swedish language.
Their radar network covers now almost the whole Scandinavia, northern parts of Germany, most of Poland and Finland and the Baltic States. Even westernmost parts of Ukraine and Belarus and just recently part of Greenland! And those Swedish chaps are willing to expand their network if they can find people who own the needed receiver and want to join the network.
Just click the Flygradar tab. But... using Internet Explorer as your browser may jam your PC. It sure did jam mine. Use Firefox browser instead.

I've noticed something with Flightaware, and perhaps others have noticed it as well. When tracking a flight I'll watch the minutes left for the flight count down on the bar graph, then when it has arrived Flightaware will tell me "arrived 12 minutes ago!" (It usually seems to be about 12 minutes.) If I were to assume Flightaware information has a 12 minute delay would I be closer to the real flight status?

I'm in the midst of playing with the North American (7 day free trial) edition of AirNav Live Flight Tracker.

Worth checking out and there is now European edition.
