What do you do to sleep?
You dread it, especially when traveling on long-haul flights. The feeling of closing your eyes and yet not being able drift off to a dream. You open your eyes, stare at your screen and wonder if you should watch more movies. You think and tell yourself that sleep is important, so you will feel fresh after the flight. In addition, you shift uncomfortably in your seat, creating jerking motions. You find it difficult to sleep, no matter how far back your seat is reclined or how comfortable you try to make yourself feel. What do you do?
Sure, you can pop in some Tylenol pills, but that'll only get you to sleep for several hours. Are there any techniques people found to be useful to sleep on a long-... flight?

I would suggest a Valium in your case so that you don't have to worry about stoopid FA's and in what seat you are sitting. Next thing you know you will be landing and Voila, there you have it. Enjoy your flight.

Valium is a prescription sedative.
Try ear plugs and an eye-mask, next time. Also, you can try different styles of homemade or storebought pillows/neck-supporters and see if they help.

Sleeping
I have always had a problem sleeping on long flights until a friend told me to try a Dramamine. I take it with my dinner and am gone afterwards for at least 6 hours. What a relief! Probably like anything else it doesn't work for everyone.

I cant sleep on anything moving either. ... i manage to pop a couple of pills if I
must catch up on my sleep.. else I sleep a little more prior and after the flight.
If someone has a better way.. I'm open for suggestions.

once I actually brought my pillow. Long story but I did. I felt a little foolish until I rolled over on my side, snuggled under the blanket, mashed the pillow into the crook of my neck and slept like a baby.
Of course my preference would have been a truly flat-bed seat rather than Delta's inadequate reclining angles, but, heck, I slept.
My only problem is from the east coast to Europe is really not enough time to sleep for me, what with dinner and then breakfast. That's why I'm looking forward to my trip to Argentina. Plenty of time to enjoy the entire experience.

to bother you.... if you can sleep.. it can be great!

If an Ambiem or Valium doesn't work, two Benedryls seem to work fine as well.
I don't sleep on planes (red-eyes, actually; I sleep during the day for some odd reason). I've just about given up.

Be careful of the amnesia side effect with Ambien. I've had several weird experiences with it, and now don't take it when I fly. Agree that dramamine makes you sleepy, but also spacy the next day.
What ever you do, don't waste your money on this:

Looks good, but didn't work for me. I just wrestled with it the whole flght and it feels like your reclined onto a pool airmattress.

Ambien. I call it the Velvet Sledgehammer. Taken after a meal, with a wee bit of scotch neat, it knocks me out in fifteen minutes or less. Get a prescription from your MD and sleep tight!
