What is your favorite North American city?

I did a search, to no avail.

So, what is your favorite North American city? This is not meant to start controversy, but I am hoping to make it to a few NA cities for a few days in the next month or two, and am hoping for ideas.

Places I hear mentioned: San Francisco, Quebec City, Vancouver, NYC...

I haven't seen enough of them to have a favorite!

How about a couple of favorites:

> Memphis: for Corky's BBQ, a good zoo, and Beale Str.

> Philadelphia: History, Good Beer, Franklin Institute, another good zoo

> St. Louis: Riverboat casinos, the Arch, fairly good food (wait till the power comes back on, though), Six flags amusement park

> Harrisburg, PA: Compact downtown with good bars, Hershey Park nearby, riverfront

> Las Vegas: Over the top, but anything you want is available there. Americana at its best (worst?)

For chilling out, Scottsdale or Palm Springs

For great sights and things to do, San Francisco, Washington or Philadelphia.

For one off visits, Cleveland for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Indianapolis to see the Colts play and Las Vegas because love it or hate it you have to see it.

Chicago: incredible food, great ethnic neighborhoods, gorgeous downtown and skyline, great museums, great sports...my kinda town . You wouldn't run out of things to do.

Montreal is a lot of fun, and very different b/c of French colonial influence.
Vancouver is beautiful, has lots of naturey and city stuff to offer.
San Francisco is lots of fun, and a definite must have North American city experience.
Boston very compact, very pretty, and has lots of good food, museums, sights, history etc.

If you want more info on those cities (esp Montreal, Boston, Chicago, or NYC--PM me).

Once you get through that list ...post back, and we'll have some more fun.

Baltimore/DC - It sucks for fun, but there's lots of cushy govt jobs, and it's home.

Seattle - hip and trendy

Miami/Ft. Lauderdale - sunny beaches, warm all year 'round

Vegas - great for gambling, but remember, anything else is a sideshow

Montreal - the Quebecois are less puritanical, so IMHO, Montreal should be called Sin City

I maybe bias because I'm one of the locals, but my vote has to go to Vancouver. ^ Friendly, less frentic, less strees, breathtaking sights, and an absolute charm as a Pacific gateway.

Speaking of DEN, It is quite amazing that such a city at such an altitude can frequently endure hot summers as well.

New York

Best mixologists, quesadillas, and mass transit you'll find on this continent. And that's all I really need in life.
