Rome and Positano recommendations?
Any recs for lodging under 150/night in either place. We are planning 4 nights in Rome and just a couple of nights in Positano before doing it up in Florence and Venice. So...trying to be economical for at least the first leg of the trip! Any suggestions much appreciated!

I stayed at the Jolly Midas in Rome a couple years ago on school trip for my son. It was reasonably comfortable, but not particularly fancy. Looks like room rates are around 155-Euro and up. It's pretty much outside of the main drag, but there's a supermarket and a couple of restaurants within a short walking distance.

you are not seriously looking for 150 night in Positano this summer are you?
One of the most expensive places in Italy....
Last year we walked into Hotel Marmoratta (sp?) a Best western in Ravello which is on the Amalfi Coast somewhat near Postiano and despite rates posted on internet of 250+ we got a great room on the sea for 165euro we were very happy with it..
4 years ago off season got La Sirrenuse in Positano for very low rate but it was still about 250 euro

Hi -- I just returned from Positano last week it was amazing. I am jealous of you! We stayed at the Villa Rosa -- great location, very clean, friendly staff, water views and a balcony with breakfast delivered to the room every morning. We paid about $200 / night. I know that is more than you want to pay but it is very expensive there and I can say that I did A LOT of research and the Villa Rosa was an excellent value. It is pretty popular though so call soon if you are interested!

In Rome you could try the Four Points by Sheraton Roma West
It is not located in the heart of Rome but it is under Eu 150 per night. The hotel is located near Fiumicino airport but is not at all an airport hotel. There is a complimentary shuttle that takes you into the center of Rome and then back. The rooms are quite decent.

Check out Priano, a little fishing village south of Positano. I think Positano is really obnoxious & tacky, overrun with ugly tourist shops & generally bad restaurants. Unless you are paying the BIG bucks & can escape to Le Sirenuse or the San Pietro, you'll be stuck in the middle of it all. Priano is a charming little village that seems miles away, yet is just the next bus stop up the road. Watch the fishing boats come in, eat at Armandino's, an excellent, but small little restaurant right on the wharf, walk the trail round the cliffs to the next beach... and save a whole lot of $$ & headaches.
