The real estate market in Seattle is quite stable as well....

Of course, that's CNN comparing Seattle to San Fran, NY, Boston and LA to Seattle, not me. :D

I'd have to say LA for sure. I have no idea why anyone comes here to visit. Cities north and south of LA (Santa Barbara, San Diego) are so much better.

You can go for a run 365 days a year in Seattle. ^

Therefore, it cannot possibly be overrated. @:-)

Yes, I ran all last week. Not an issue.

I believe I was the so-called "OP" for this thread... I haven't looked at it in a while, but my recollection was that I left off very ANTI-Sydney. I have to do a "mea culpa" of sorts, because since I started the thread, I have, in fact, now visited Sydney and Melbourne.

I do stand by my original assertion that there are no real attractions in Sydney, other than a nice setting for a city, in a nice harbor... this cannot be denied. However, after visiting, I have to say that the local people there were probably the most friendly people I've met anywhere... and it was worth going there just to be around friendly people. And yes, I would go back.

Melbourne wasn't blessed with the setting that Sydney has, but the people there were as friendly as they were in Sydney. Again, I didn't see any 5 star "attractions" in the City, but it was a nice please to visit.

So I'm going to admit that I was partially wrong.

When I exited customs at the Sydney airport, I was tired from a long flight, and I was pushing that trolley around, looking around, looking dazed and confused, for a money changing place. IMMEDIATELY, a nice person in I think a green coat, with a clipboard, quickly identified the confused behavior, and said something like, "the money changing place is to your left, about 1 minute walk away"... It was as if she could read my mind. I think she was from the Sydney Visitors bureau or something. In any event, I was made to feel welcome from the first moment. I haven't seen anything like that anywhere else in decades.

And the rest of my time in Australia was pretty much the same... helpful friendly people, that really look like they apreciated that I choose to visit their country.

So, Sydney IS still overrated for ATTRACTIONS, but I still give it a strong recommendation, as probably one of the nicest places to visit and live.

I think its one of the best cities.

Add me to the list voting LA more overrated and I'm a defender of NYC....there's sooooo much to get into outside of the tourist traps

Toronto is quite overrated. There is literally nothing to do there besides the CN Tower.

In the United States? San Antonio really rubbed me the wrong way as it seemed 1 in 20 people knew how to speak English while the rest only spoke in Spanish :td:

Newark is a close second. Drove into a wrong part of neighborhood and I had wished I had dished out for the extra tinting on my car windows :o

Asia? I disliked Seoul since when people realized that I had a resemblance like them and didn't speak Korean, that somehow that was the biggest sin in the world. Certainly did not go down with me and flew out 2 days early

Europe? Brussels. I didn't hate Brussels but everything was quite bland when I spent 4 days there.

I was not really impressed with Amsterdam, outside of the museums. Don't know exactly why -- just didn't really like it.

Celtic Park is absolutely incredible (and the Celtic fans showed the world that last Tuesday night vs. Man U). As a city, Glasgow is overshadowed by Edinburgh, but is still a pretty interesting city to visit.

Overrated: Atlanta

Underrated: Philadelphia

I would give my vote for JNB as the most overrated city, but then that presupposes that it has enough going for it to get rated to begin with - never mind overrated!

Sydney, overrated? Are you people nuts?

Now, Copenhagen, Vienna, and Madrid are overrated!

I didn't know Ponce was rated at all! :D

BRU for sure - like the sprouts: bleh.

Was there on a day trip from Paris and very glad that I didn't stay longer than a day. Apart from chocolates, the European parliament, and beers - there was really very little to see or do. When I travel I do not run around hunting for 'big name' attractions, but the overall feel of the city wasn't that nice either.

It was drastically different to the pre-conceived notions I had of Belgium, but then a friend who hails from Belgium told me that I should've visited another part of Belgium instead, like Antwerp. :o

It depends what the defination of "overrated" for tourists is... my defination is the number of 5 star tourist attractions. My recollection was, going back over a year, that Sydney had NONE, other than the harbor and setting of the City. My recollection was that in one of the guidebooks, maybe Fodor's, whose highest category attraction was THREE stars: Sydney didn't have any. Not one attraction, museum, etc. that was "must see".

I stand by that for tourists it's worth one day, but as a place to LIVE: I would rate it about as high as anywhere.
