Please and Thank you

Just an observation - but why do some people who fly business and first class never say please and thank you to FA's after a service.

Anyone observed this too?

Red face

They should teach those pax to have some manners, thats for sure. I always say "please" and "thank you" to the FA's if in FC. I also do it in Economy class as well. Those FA's are there to serve the PAX and the PAX should show at least some courstey and RESPECT for those FA's if they truly are nice ones.

I think it is partly a feeling of entitlement.

I also believe that these same people don't say "please" and "thank you" in restaurants either. I cringe when I hear people ordering saying "give me a..." instead of "may I have...". So is it a matter of upbringing? Perhaps (and that could get me flamed).

Hmmm ... you may be right - I think its a matter of upbringing. Glad I know how to say please and thank you.

I agree that how you were brought up has a lot to do with basic manners. I also think that if you ever worked in a service industry you are more appreciative of service provided by others.

IMO, polite and considerate people ride F, J and Y just as impolite and inconsiderate people ride F, J and Y.

Actually, no, I haven't. But as said already, not everybody was brought up properly.

One doesnt need to be brought up properly to learn to say please and thank you for a service. Its just common courtesy or should I say manners.

Yes and to not have common courtesy or manners come naturally means that someone was NOT brought up properly.

I hardly think it's FC specific. You'll find it everywhere.

I'm one of those who thanks FAs for pretty much everything, but I gotta tell ya', most of the time I barely get a nod from them in return.

I always say please and thank you; replies from FAs vary from a "You're welcome" to "You're very welcome" to "My pleasure".

We must be on the same flights!

I always say 'please' and 'thank you' and am often ignored as the FA moves onto the next pax.

Totally agree. I always say please and thank you, and I can't remember any FA not acnkowledging my appreciation.

I have always found it odd that he or she is thanking me for throwing my trash away. In my mind, I am the one who should be thanking the FA for bringing me the bag to get rid of it. (And I do, so the exchange is "thank you!" "thank *you!*")

I don't think it's a F or otherwise issue. It's a single person issue, and I've noticed it all over the place. (Like kids on Halloween, but I won't go there.)

As someone said, it's just good manners. Not everyone has them.
