Be sure that it does not fall under this category. If the dog DID.....the hotel would be breaking the law by not allowing it near the owner.

There is no certain breed that performs these functions.

I remember an actual (comical?) incident where some goofy woman took a pony into the first class cabin onto a US Air flight to Philly. She claimed it was for "emotional support". I believe it did a big pony doo-doo on the first class cabin deck prior to deplaning. FWIW I refuse to fly US Air.

I feel the same way, I was quite annoyed when I was in Homewood Suites, Rochester, NY in April. I came down hall, to corner where you turn left to enter may lobby, first door on right opens and a dog on leash comes out and almost trips me.

My wife has had 3 sinus surgeries and is allergic to dogs & cats, we were quite a ways down the hall and I did not mention it to her, otherwise I would have been looking for another room at 10 at night.

We need to be back in the neighborhood for RIT move in day and will be staying in this facility again. The two Hampton Inns are pits compared to this more recently built hotel. We have asked for a non-pet room...I spent 20 years asking for non-smoking...now non-pet has entered the lexicon.

Just as long as you remember that guests with disabilities and assistance animals have full rights to check in with their animals... you should be able to request rooms with no pets. Also be aware that most hotels have surcharges for pets (not assistance animals) - sometimes very significant ones, like $50. If you find you have been assigned a room that contains animal dander or / and hair, you should lodge a firm complaint; the hotel has no basis not to clean rooms properly.

You don't have to shout, thank you.

If I were you I'd call HHonors and request the 100% guarantee. You can also write the General Manager at the hotel and state your concern; regardless of the reason for the dog's being there, there is no reason a staffer who is handling food should handle the dog - and particularly not wash after.

As to never staying there again, that's your decision of course - but trying to rectify the situation for yourself, the hotel and its guests seems a more productive action, as opposed to merely creating mere drama, for example. :)

The minature Horse was on DL, the pig was on US:

Howzabout a... GOAT?!

...and Paris you-know-who tried to bring her newly-acquired pet goat, as well as three ferrets and a monkey onboard at LAS. Some of the various articles state the FAs objected - I wonder where the TSA was? Oh, fawning over the barely-dressed celeb, of course. (Ananova article.)

No goat sightings at any Hilton properties yet... but if you see bizarre animals about the Executive Floor or suites, now you may know why...:D

Apparently, a lot of people take their pets along with them. I love my dog, but when we go away, we board him. It's not fair to the dog, either.

And, yes, I have seen people in Europe bringing their dogs into the restaurant.

But food handlers and pet handlers should not mix!

BTW, most hotels provide a set of icons with their listings. There's usually one which indicates they are "pet friendly". Just don't book there.

I would rather be around a dog than children who have many disgusting habits. I show dogs so am so use to the dogs in hotels. Don't ever go to NYC during Westminster, they are everywhere. I just wanted to say that there are many types of service dogs, I know of several that detect seizures. This may have been one. I was eating in a nice place Sunday in Newport R.I. and the table next to us had a small dog. He was much better than the screaming child at the table behind us.

This is a fully accurate statement. Many Hampton Inns allow pets.....just check on the homepages of them people!! There are certain blocks of rooms for this purpose....and let me tell you.....they are very difficult to reserve. That must mean that they are popular AND money-makers.

As for emotional support animals....they DO exist and I get them onboard my airline often.

To say taking pets with you on travel is "not fair to the dog" is ridiculous. Obviously if you're going somewhere that the pet will have to spend all day everyday in a cage, then sure, its not fair, but there are plenty of times that its perfectly reasonable to take a pet with you. We've got two bichons (small dogs) and if we're going somewhere that there are pet-friendly activities (the mountains, the beach, etc) we often take them with us. I also take them with me if we go to visit my parents (who live in rural Minnesota) because there is plenty of land for them to roam. Heck, they've stayed at a number of Hilton properties without a hitch. Our dogs are quiet and well behaved. I once had a woman riding up with me (and the beasts) in the elevator at the Anaheim Hilton comment on how much better behaved our dogs were then the kids who were downstairs trashing the lobby. At the time we were at that property we were one of three groups of people on the executive floor with small dogs.

If you're allergic to dogs then you should either ask for a room that dogs haven't been in, or make sure the rooms have been thoroughly cleaned. But if you think you've got a right to be pissed off because there are dogs in the hotel, think again. Get over it or stay somewhere else.

Traveling with pets is a big business, and its only getting bigger. You can expect to see more hotels and resorts, including upscale ones, catering to people with pets. In fact there was an article to this effect on CNN several weeks ago.

There are a number of such restaurants in the US as well. The Monterey and Lake Tahoe areas have several of these, although you have to eat outside with your dog (usually on a porch or something). Personally, I don't think the dogs should be in the restaurant (I think that's going too far towards imposing on those with allergies and isn't necessarily the most sanitary thing on earth). But outside is fine.
