Using BofA check cards in Asia
Has anyone does this before. BofA is a member of the global ATM alliance, which includes:
bankofamerica.via.infonow.net/locator/atmbranch/
I don't see any banks in Asia though which is really weird. I will be traveling there (India/KL/Singapore) next week, and I'm looking for ATMs I can use without being slapped by huge transaction costs.
Thanks!

They work at Citibanks in India for sure, I've used my BofA ATM card there in Citibank ATM machines.
Total fee is ~$3 or maybe $4, and the translation rate wasn't terrible.
They also work in Singapore, probably at any ATM in Singapore, but definitely based on personal experience in the banks with white lettering and red backgrounds (sorry, name escapes me). Again a similar fee structure.
I'd bet you'd have no issues in KL either.
International access is a major reason I have BofA personal checking.

Cool, good to know. I called and asked the bofa folks after I posted my earlier response. They said if BNP, DB etc have ATMs in India, then its free (which is mind-boggling)
But with Citibank, there is a foreign ATM fee ($5) and they also keep a %age of the funds. But hey its good to know I can use it though. BofA also has a caste system based on what kind of account you have, so I'll probably go into my bank and ask them how it applies for me.

I didn't know about the BNP/DB free transaction - good to know!
I didn't want to lose time hunting for one that worked, so when i saw Citibank i just went and it worked. I don't think the fee was as bad as you say, i need to look it up but i don't recall it being so high.

Although not specifically addressed in the OP, I will comment on China.
TMK there is only one bofa ATM in the entire country (Nanjing Road at Shimen 2 Rd in Shanghai) and it is often offline and has a y2000 daily withdrawal limits.
HSBC atms are the most reliable by far here (they let you take out as much money as your home bank permits and have nice English displays). Bank of China is also pretty good, though only marginally more reliable than the afforementioned bofa machine (the good news is that they have more than one ATM).
Neither HSBC or boc charge any withdrawal fees, but bofa will hit you with around $3/ transaction ($1.50 for denied transactions regardless of reason). Even with these fees, ATMs are a good way to get money as long as you take out as much as possible each time.

B of A now charges $5 for using an out-of-network ATM in a foreign country.
Your best bet is to find a bank that allows a certain number of free foreign ATM withdrawals; many online banks and credit unions are perfect for this.
