The L is pretty easy
You could take the Orange Line from Midway to the Roosevelt stop downtown and then switch to the southbound Red Line and get off at "Sox 35th" which is one block from the ballpark.
Or you could get off on the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange line and take the #35 bus eastbound which would drop you off right in front of the park.

This will be April 18-19, do you think I'll have a problem getting tickets on game day?

Do you buy tickets at the station? How does that work?

Yes, you can buy a farecard in the train station. I think it's $1.75 each way - you can load the card with $3.50 or $4 or whatever before you board the first train, eliminating the need to reload it at Comiskey, where there might be a line to use the card machine. (Someone correct me if my fare info is out of date!)
As for game tickets, think of the hardest ticket in sports to get. Masters? Super Bowl? Maybe a box seat at one of those Fenway WS games last year? Anyway, consider that experience...
...a White Sox game on a Monday in April is the exact opposite of that.
If you play the scalping game outside the stadium, someone might give you tickets. But...the very fact that you are going to this game means that you are a True Seamhead, so I'd advise perhaps spending a little money (definitely not face value or anything!) for a nice box seat.
Have fun!

Are there still cell phone companies that aren't Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, or T-Mobile?

As long as you don't hang around US Cellular too long after the game it is totally safe.
And yes, tickets should be no problem to get.
