It is indeed $1.75 each way - may as well just load up with $3.50 at Midway when you leave. You may also have to insert your card again when you transfer to the red line, but it shouldn't cost you anything.

As long as you don't hang around US Cellular too long after the game it is totally safe.

And yes, tickets should be no problem to get.
