Contract Engineer for a major defense firm. We have subcontractors and plants all overthe country (and the world).

While occasional travel to other locations is nice, I had hit the jacpot a couple of years ago when I was assigned to be TDY at a number of different locations. Since my wife insists I get home every weekend if at all possible, I got very adept at finding cheap flights.

The nice part about being TDY is that the company picks up the day-to-day living expenses and some of the flights. Between racking up miles and points, and creative use of the credit cards, we've taken a couple of very nice First Class European vacations.

I got laid off at the end of 2002, but I was back in early 2003. Haven't flown anywhere yet on business, but since I work away from home,my hotel point balances are building up rather nicely.

I work with other guys who live too far away to drive, so they're in the air every week. Of course, it's on their own nickel, but we're paid enough so that it's doable. Especially with LCC's going to places that are somewhat convenient.

I haven't been on a company-paid flight since December 2002 and my mileage balances are approaching zero. I'm politicking like crazy to change that, since I still get bored without being surrounded by an aluminum tube every now and then.

I started with this company in 03/04. Originally going to be I.T. guy but went and worked on an event (Phoenix International Raceway) and they realized I was good at events.

Here's a list of recent events I've been the computer guy for and/or been the photo guy or the video guy:

08/11/04 - 08/16/04 Denver
08/06/04 - 08/08/04 Foxboro
07/28/04 - 07/31/04 Atlanta
07/26/04 - 07/28/04 Minneapolis
07/22/04 - 07/24/04 San Diego
07/15/04 - 07/18/04 Seattle
07/02/04 - 07/07/04 Englishtown, NJ

When I'm home I enjoy the downtime for a bit although I'm backlogged in making up for the all the weekends that I've worked.

I'm a grad student in education policy so all of my air travel is for fun. Not much business travelling to do in the "ed biz" unless you're a consultant of some sort. On the bright side, the job market in teaching is pretty hot if you have the credentials.

I'm an actuary for an insurance company- not a job that would ordinarily involve travel, but I've been to India and Munich on business this year, as well as more pedestrian sites such as Chicago and Baltimore. Just got elected to my society's B of D, which means attending more meetings over the next 3 years including Montreal next month and Disney world, Puerto Rico, Phoenix and other locations.

Independent Professional Audio-Visual Consultant, designing anything from high end home theatres to large performing arts auditoriums, even stadiums, with clients worldwide. I also perform training for a pro audio equipment manufacturer, travelling to the Asia-Pacific region 5-6 times a year conducting seminars with local distributors. I also attend at least 3 or 4 trade shows a year in the USA just to keep up with the changes in technology. I love this job! Having just started out on my own 2 years ago, I can't afford to hire anyone just yet, but if anyone here has figured a way to clone oneself, let's talk...

Equity analyst for an emerging markets stock fund. The best-of-all-possible worlds scenario IMO, traveling where/when I want, all in J, all over the globe. This leaves me with enough FF miles to take my 5 weeks of annual vacation the same way. Three weeks ago: Peru. Tomorrow: India. And so on.

Dues paid: BA and MA in Soviet Studies, several years of toiling in DC and Russia as a consultant, then MBA, then CFA.

Thumbs up Us drug people get around...

Currently a Clinical Project Coordinator for a midsized pharmaceutical company. Stated travel is 30%, but it really depends on the current trial and your desire to travel. I for one can't stand to be in the office too many days in a row so typically have one trip a week. My previous industry position,a Clinical Research Associate (aka CRA), typically requires >75% travel.

Yes we are hiring, as are most pharma companies, but only if you have ~2yrs experience as a CRA.

More than likely, along with NSCA, AES is my favourite show, especially when it's on the west coast. Just need to catch up on a couple of projects and get some cash reserves in the bank account! Was thinking of LDI as well!

Oracle Financials Consultant. I travel each week to whatever client I am assigned to. Most projects last for 3-6 months. Expenses are usually paid by the client, but sometimes are picked up by Oracle. We are hiring...

Training Consultant for a software company. Travel at least 3 weeks per month, and never the same place two weeks in a row. All expenses are covered by my clients, which makes life a lot easier. You can get addicted to the travel, but it is hard to keep such a crazy pace for an extended period of time. (Having an understanding spouse makes a world of difference!)

I'm a patent and licensing attorney for major global pharma company. My travel tends to come in spurts, depending on what transactions I am working on. There are some months when I'm on the road for 3 out of 4 weeks. I recall once last year when I had to fly to the UK, then to Switzerland, then to France, and back to Switzerland before returning home to the US -- all in a 2-week period. On the other hand, there are stretches of one or even two months when I'm not travelling at all (e.g., when the negotiations are taking place at my company's offices or when the other party is local).
