Lyon: Hotel recommendations
I need to find a hotel for a colleague in Lyon France quickly. Anyone have a suggestion for a good to better hotel that isn't part of a major. The Hiltons, etc are all booked out due to conferences. Something locally owned and managed is what I'm hoping will still be available.
Hotel name and number would be appreciated.
Thanks...

I agonized between Cour des Loges and La Tour Rose for a visit last September. I was happy with my choice of La Tour Rose; each room is decorated in fabric from a different silk house in Lyon. They have a superb restaurant, and I had a marvelous meal. Also, they left freshly baked madeleines in my room at night.
I walked into Cour des Loges, which is about 2-3 blocks from La Tour Rose. It has an ultra trendy lobby, which opens immediately into the restaurant area. Either of these are strong choices.
Check your Michelin red guide for Lyon - you'll find both of these hotels listed.

Michelin main cities of Europe (2003)
some red ones (red = pleasant)
location: Vieux (old) Lyon:
**** Villa Florentine, 25 monte St-Barthlmy, 69005, Tf 0033-4 72 56 56 56

"this old hilltop convent with its Renaissance appearance is more than a match for the most sumptuos Tuscan villa. Refined, beautifully lit rooms, idyllic surroundings, superb view of the city, plus contemporary cuisine at the Terrasses de Lyon"
**** Cour des Loges, 6, rue Boeuf, Tf 0033-4 72 77 44 44 [email protected]
"Contemporary artists and designers have created the striking dcor of this group of 15C and 17C buildings laid out around a superb galleried courtyard. Inventive, personalised cuisine in the Aux Loges restaurant."
*** Tour Rose, 22, r. Boeuf, Tf 0033-4 78 92 69 10 [email protected]
"A groupe of houses typical of old Lyon, with stair towers and terrace gardens. Wonderful rooms decorated by the city's foremost silk specialists. Lovely glass roof at the foot of the pink tower and a luxurious dining room offering creative and spicy cuisine"

Guys,
The information is for a younger colleague travelling here on short notice, hand carrying a few needed components for a conference. I'll know first thing tomorrow if she's made it ok and if the information was useful.
Thanks again...

Hotel des Artistes
8 rue gaspard-andre
tel 78-42-04-88
fax 78-42-03-76
stayed here 10 years ago - very nice clean rooms not four seasons but with decent bathrooms and quiet central location.
many visiting actors stay here.
price is right.

Cour des Loges is wonderful but not particularly close to the main conference center. Still, if your colleague can afford it, it's a fantastic hotel and worth the taxi ride.

He would have booked Hilton for his friend/colleague, could not .. Hilton is a nice hotel, but in a somewhat remote location next to Interpol, so any nice hotel would be fine/adequate. In such a situation, I take any 4-star hotel (for $/Euro 150 more or less) I can get through hrs.com or priceline.com.
BTW, for an opinion, Michelin and/or Gault-Millau are fine sources ...
