Does anyone bring their own bed sheets?

A while back, I found a company selling a set of sheets that were packaged for use by travelers.

I'm curious, does anyone bring pillow cases, sheets or other bedding with them when the travel?

Okay, I'll be honest and answer yes, even though my friends and family have made fun of me for years for doing this. I got tired of seeing ripped or dirty sheets (I typically stay at Marriott, Starwood or Hyatt so these are decent properties) and just didn't like the thought of hands cleaning a bathroom and then changing my sheets.

I'm a little OCD about the cleanliness of hotel rooms, and the more I stay (I average about 150 nights per year), the worse I seem to get!

I know people that bring pillows. They have a special pillow that works for their neck or back. These aren't real frequent travelers in my experience...

My wife does. She often has alergic reactions to the industrial strength detergents used by hotels.

It's much easier than rinsing out sheets and hanging them in the bathroom to dry.

Some years ago the US-based major computer company I worked for then built a "prestige" European training/conference centre, complete with accommodation which was managed for them under contract by one of the major hotel groups. So everything was fine.

Except for the pillows. Taking your own became a standard thing for many of us. It was easy to just throw a couple in the car when going there; would have been impractical if flying. The ones they had were like having your head on a bagful of soft springs. The room maids said they were quite used to this "own pillows" thing there, and would make them up in the bed if you had them. People there for a week would complain about neckache. Lots of people commented about this on the standard evaluation form. As nothing was ever done about the problem, it just confirmed our thoughts that these forms were tossed away unread.

I have heard that some people bring sheets, pillows, or faceclothes. If one doesn't sleep in the nude, bring sheets may not be needed unless you get a rash on your chin.

When I travel, I wear full pajamas to avoid contact with the laundry detergent residue, which is sorta the same thing. I pack my shoes in cloth bags, that I put over the pillow.

I seem to have a strong alergic reaction to many of the sheets and pillowcases, and it is a lot easier to cover me than to drag enough sheets for 2 week stays.

HMMMMM! Disposable bed sheets to go with the disposable underware! Sounds like a good idea, if it is patentable!

I bring FIRM pillows back from BKK to use at home! Reverse technology!

I generally just use the sheets provided. However, when I am backpacking or staying in cheap places, I often bring my "sleep sack." It's a king size flat sheet that I folded in half lengthwise and had my mom sew on the bottom and side. It's perfect to slip into when the bedding is suspect.

I briefly glanced at the technology they use for hotel laundries. Basically it's a huge quantity of chlorine bleach, which is why they don't have colored sheets --- the color would bleach to white anyway.

This does disinfect everything pretty well. As others have pointed out, there is a residual that some are sensitive to, but it is a hygienic process, generally.

Any backpacker always has his/her sleep sack along:

I used to use a duvet cover as a sleep sack (ideal when backpacking in hot countries)

I've learned to unmake hotel beds to the point where I can see all the sheets. I also take the bedspread off and toss it on the floor. Nasty! I have never seen hotel bedspreads or blankets cleaned. Have you?

When possible I carry along my own pillow in a brightly colored case so that the maids don't fiddle with it. Yes, I agree that the more we travel, the more picky we get!

Rather than carry my own sheets, I would buy one of the sleep sacks from Magellan, Travelsmith or make one myself.

I also do not use the blankets or pillows on airplanes.
