I need to arrange a limo transfer from JFK to the Waldorf Astoria for December?

Anyone know any good reputable companies?
What's the going rate for this sort of transfer?

There is a post in there by Doc with a goodlist of limo services!

They had better been taking a limo and not just normal car service. Normal car service is 50 dollars to maybe 60 maximum.

Maybe for a US Centurion member, but I'm still waiting for a quote even though I phoned them at the weekend.

Worth contacting the hotel (Waldorf) instead?

Only if price isn't an issue would you want to contact the Waldroff.

Prices should run about $75 plus parking plus tolls plus tips for a regular town car, add in another $40 or $50 for a stretch limo.

I have had very good experiences with hotel's referrals for car services in NY incl the W . One service that's been very good is Dav-El - on time, clean new cars and excellent drivers. Ran about 60 from JFK and 75 from EWR.

That's a tad bit high A strech limo from Midtown to JFK is $90 without tip.

Just like some cars are better than others, some limos are absolute crap and some are better. As for regular car services, a Town Car between JFK and Manhattan should cost anywhere between $40 and $60 depending on company and time of day.

I saw in another thread a lot of commentary about cars and drivers. Unfortunately there is very Little quality control among these services. The cars are individually owned and are very rarely of the same type these days (once upon a time, one company would have Town Cars, another Caddies, another LTD's, etc.). Generally when a driver leaves one service, he then signs up with another (remember the drivers are all independant contractors with the services, the services get a cut of the money for booking them out running accounts, etc.).

I've used them on 3 or so trips with ok to very good results. Tolls/tips extra. You do have to call when you arrive, but they are waiting in some "holding" area. On the "basic" rate I've gotten a standard car, a luxury car, a station wagon, and a limo. It looks like if you want an actual limo, its $90.

Keep in mind that the term "limo service" in NYC can mean a surly guy who drives a barely mobile Oldsmobuick.

I always go through the hotel concierge and have always been very happy with the results. I'm sure that there are cheaper rates out there but the hotel concierge provides a good degree of quality control that otherwise can only be found through trial and error. I don't appreciate error and travel is trial enough.

Empire International. 800-451-5466. Have used them for over 15 years without one problem. They have received many national awards through the years are are less expensive than quotes I haved received from AMX Platinum.

Just an FYI, as I assume that this doesn't apply to the original post (which seemed to imply that "nice" transport is required.)

Taxis from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan are a flat rate of $35 plus tolls and tip. So, anything you pay a car service above and beyond is for the knowledge that you don't have to wait in the taxi line- unless you make special requests or use a high-end limo service, there's no guarantee that you'll be travelling in any more style/comfort than regular yellow cab.

I used to arrange livery cab pick-ups ahead of time at JFK, because you never know when the taxi line was going to be an hour long.

However, since 9/11 I just take cabs- I can't think of one time since where I've had to wait for a cab longer than it would have taken to meet up with a driver from a car service.
