Finding fare codes online
This is my first post so I hope I am using the right category and don't do anything inappropriate
I know of many websites that will find low airfares but few will show fare codes and I have found none that will let me search by the codes. This feature is important when I'm trying to find an upgradable flight. For example, I want to fly to Paris in October and use miles to upgrade to business or first class. Any hints on finding code info online?

Welcome to FT! Check out the following link from Travelocity. Fare codes are given, so I hope it helps!

With Travelocity, if you chose the "Show All Fares" option, you can pick the fare you want, and then it'll only show you flights that qualify for that fare.
Of course, if you really want good service for tasks like this, find yourself a good travel agent...

If you want first/business class fares, do a booking just before purchasing and read the rules.
In travelocity, you get a lot of the rules, however, you can't get the routing information.

For me, I use a combination of both Travelocity and Amex.com (formerly ITN).
At Amex, create an account, and in the advanced profile area, set the 'switches' to allow viewing fare basis codes. This will let you see inventory for various fare basis codes (up to 7 seats per code).
On Travelocity, when you are viewing the offered fares, there should be a link to let you see all the fare rules for each fare.

There are three options towards the top of the screen -- one is to show the best priced flights, the second is to display all flights and let you chose the ones you want, and the third one, in a separate box, says "Show me the best economy fares for travel during the period". Click on that and select the months you want below it.

I had to pick from economy with or without restrictions, business or first class, so I guess one can't search all fares at once. You would think that "all fares" would be an option. I appreciate your help and all the
responses that everyone was kind enough to send.

When you click on the option I mentioned, you do get *ALL* fares eventually. Clicking on that box overrides your date-of-travel selection as well as your selection of economy/biz/first later on the screen.
