The Broadmoor - Colorado Springs?

Any opinions on this location for a long weekend? Is the Broadmoor worth the trip?

I spent five days there last June. Really enjoyed the hotel and the locale. Plenty to do in the surrounding area (Pikes Peak, House Of Miles, etc.).

One disclaimer: I was on a company junket so everything was paid for. On your own dollar, the hotel is quite pricey.

I would agree with Craig6z. We spent 3 nights there over Labor Day Weekend. I was really impressed with the staff - very friendly, helpful. You could stay at the resort and have plenty to do, but there are also many places to see and visit in the area. Manitou Springs is an artist colony, and they had one of the best crafts fairs I've ever seen and some excellent restaurants, as well.

There are three different "towers" at the Broadmoor - the main building is somewhat old but removated with a lot of "character" (don't know what the rooms are like) but the rooms in the two newer towers are excellent. Plenty of golf and tennis and swimming. Its rating is well deserved.

First time I've heard if this resort - it's also the name of a rather famous psychiatric secure hospital in the UK...(well...er, just in case anyone was interested)

... and play tennis at Dennis Ralston's (former top ten player) Tennis Center (once, for one tournament in 1963, my doubles partner)

Huge property and a truly great resort for nearly 100 years! Views, golf, pools, tennis, boats, food, shopping spa, fireplaces, rockers, great service and so on.

My arm is being twisted to go here for Memorial Day Weekend. I don't golf but others in my party will probably spend large parts of the day golfing (he's a PGA golfer). I was really hoping for a warm beach vacation. Will it be too cool to sit by the pool and read and relax during the day? Is the infininty pool heated? Is there plenty to do in the hotel and surrounding area?

Colorado Springs is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. There is so much to do there: Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, U.S. Air Force Academy, Focus on the Family, shopping, House of Miles, . . .

I expounded on this at length in one of last year's Freddie threads in the Community Forum.

I stayed there a few years ago. The hotel is beautiful, but I would not stay there again.

I was very dissapointed with the response of the general mananger to a reservation problem [wrong dates]. Basically his reponse was to print a computer receipt showing me I was wrong, rather than apologizing for an error they made [I was not asking for any sort of compensation].

It would make me feel better if you did not stay there. It would make me even feel better if you did not stay there and mentioned it was because of this post.

My Dads company HQ is out in COS and he used to stay there whenever he was in town (usually a week, six to eight times a year)

He used to fly in on Sunday for Monday meetings and got the rest of the day being pampered in the Spa since he didn't play golf! He really loved the place because of the surroundsings and said it was one of the best hotels he stayed at with the exception of his miraculous upgrade to some out of this world suite @ Burj Al Arab.

Thumbs up Quite a memory!

For my wife's 22nd birthday, I flew her from Denver to Colorado Springs (about 10 minutes in the air) for a surprise weekend at the Broadmoor. She didn't understand why she couldn't bring loose shoes and dresses in the car until we were in sight of the airport.

The room was awesome. Dinner was excellent. There was an old pub on the property that had been dismantled in England and reconstructed on-site. We spent a long evening there after dinner.

The travel agent asked if I wanted a limo to meet us. I assumed it would be a club-sized van with a teen driver. Instead there was a uniformed driver holding a sign with my name. He led us to a stretch caddy waiting at the door.

28 years later, my wife still talks about that weekend.

Not to be missed in my opinion.

Great place!

The Broadmoor is a great place! Even as a "local" I enjoy going down there and walking around. In the evenings, they have fires out by the lake and you can sit around and talk and enjoy a drink. It's very romantic.

Colorado Springs also offers a lot to do -- good restaurants, great hiking, beautiful vistas. It's a quick day trip to some of the ski towns; even though ski season is largely over (except A-Basin!), towns like Breckenridge and Aspen are fun to visit year-round.

The Broadmoor is a great place.

I live in Colorado Springs so I am biased but there is SOOOOO much to do there it boggles the mind. If you are an active person there are countless hiking/biking trails very near. You can drive up pikes peak for some amazing views.

If you have the time you can take the COG up to the peak (This is an AMAZING trip)

Garden of the Gods is a great place to bike/hike/rollerblade or take a drive threw.

The Chapel at the Air Force Academy is not to be missed

Cave of the Winds is and the Manitou cliff dwellings are neat

Cheyeene Mountain Zoo is small but nice (they have a neat shrine to Will Rogers)

Seven Falls

I could go on and on...if you have anything specific you are looking to do drop me a line!
