I joined an organization that had concur. As a c-level, not a lot of restrictions, but I was able to negotiate keeping my own private TA. Just charge to my card, submit exp reports.
Lots of folks hate it....

... because lots of folks aren’t C-level, and therefore not really in a position to negotiate their own rules

I've been pretty happy with concur at my current company. The way we have it setup it's really good about showing lots of choices of flights and exposing travel policy while picking flights. At previous companies I would book something that looked good to me only to have it rejected hours or even days later for being out of policy. I also like that it shows Southwest flights alongside the traditional Sabre airlines.
My only problem has been the occasions where the company has done something and the database loses my FF or KTID numbers and I don't notice in time.
As for upgrades, I usually book economy on the corporate site, and once it's ticketed I can get a better economy seat through the airline app, either on status or paying. What I can't do is change cabin unless the airline gives me a free upgrade.
