No desire for several reasons. Many of the large tubs have a large space to get over to get into the tub. Fear of slipping. And not terribly comfortable in a tub anyway.

However, I do like the large soaking tubs one finds in Chinese and Japanese public bathhouses. Many of them you can step down into and either sit on the top step half immersed or sit down fully immersed.

I did stay in Home Hotel in Taipei that had a bath I WOULD use. Tha bathroom was on the outside wall with floor to ceiling window looking out to the alley. The "bathtub" was actually a clever combo tub/shower. It was sunk into the tiled floor. You stepped three steps down to the the bottom where you could either sit and bathe or stand and shower. And you could watch people on the street below as you cleaned yourself. Quite interesting and an efficient use of space.

... because not every hotel guest is an adult. I know people that travel with children who ask exactly the opposite question: when in a hotel with a shower only, they view this as a major shortcoming of the room and ask why anyone would NOT want a tub in their bathroom? From their perspective, a bathtub is an essential daily utility to keep their kids clean, and hotels that lack them are doing so to cut corners, rather than cater to business travelers.

Myself, I much prefer a walk-in shower to a tub/shower combo. Many higher-end hotels seem to provide both. Some business-oriented budget hotels are ripping out tubs and putting in walk-in showers (for example, Hyatt House). But for hotels that have lots of families, I think tubs are here to stay.

Love a bath at home and in a hotel room as long as it is nice and deep. I love to read in the bath and relax.

I would consider it but am leery of previous occupants who may have went in the tub. Irrational but existent nonetheless

Know what you mean. I wouldn't have a bath at home when teenage step son was in his teens and living at home. He's sit on his computer for hours in his room and then have a bath for an hour. I am sure I knew what was going in in that bath and I didn't want to sit in it after.

I would never turn on a hotel spa or hot tub because of all the gross water sitting in the pipes collecting bacteria.

I have a bath everyday of my life, just like almost 100% of people who live in Japan,
no stand up shower in our house. Its not just a way to wash ( you dont wash in the bath but outside it !!) its a great way to relax your whole body.

Your profile does not show but i am guessing you live in the US ?

I remember about 30 years ago when a US friend cme to my house in the UK, I still cant forget the look on his face when he found out he would have to go 2 weeks without a shower !!

Maybe he was just shaving and stuff, nothing weird? It takes time to defecate, then wash hair, wash face, hair removal, bath, etc.

Sometimes, last time was in a tub like this. Hard to resist the W-A Chicago tub and a glass or twelve of champagne. (And a movie on the tv that is inside the mirror)

I do soak sometimes after really long days of walking, but on most trips nope. I've taken exactly one bath in my own tub in the three years I've owned my home.

Shouldn't you be more worried about the mattress?

This is a good point. With a bath you can completely control the water temp before the kids get in. I have a shower at home that goes from normal to scalding in a heartbeat if someone flushes a toilet in the house. I've had hotels with very poorly controlled shower temps also. Just not a good idea for small kids.

Having said that, I love baths. Just nothing better for totally body relaxation.

Most Australian bathrooms don't have a toilet in there! So that cuts out 20 mins of his time!!

Personally preferring showers. Once questioning a MoD in a Starwood favourite of mine, why they kept the tubs after a major renovation. He said that it was a demand from the large groups of Japanese guests they had all year long
