It depends on how often towels are used. During the Summer months I can easily use them 3-4 times a day (morning, evening, after cycling, a long walk, etc) so would definitely change them daily.

on one hand it does look like the hotels are saying that they want you to save them money but if it does save on the amount of water they waste isn't that a good thing?

THAT's one time when you'll see me actually trying to conserve and when I'm in a drought area, especially California, I will cut back a bit. Although, let's be honest, 80+% of the water used in California is for agricultural purposes. Even worse, most of that is exported, so they're EXPORTING water contained in the agricultural products. "Every drop counts" but it certainly counts a lot less when it makes up so little of the total usage. They were pushing for a 20% reduction in water use by Joe Citizen... 20% of 20% = .04%.

On the rare chance I'm actually home, towels get used about 2 days before being washed, although sometimes only once.

You are correct -- that's an Asian thing. Most 'Muricans wear their shoes everywhere. I even knew someone in college who wore their shoes to bed, even when sober. His shoes stunk something awful. I guess it depends where you stay, but I've stayed at a few hotels where my feet/socks were absolutely black after walking around the hotel room. There definitely seems to be a strong correlation between $ spent and cleanliness of the room. Not always, but more often than not. It's been a long time, but I remember staying someplace that had carpeting in the bathroom! Yuck! I immediately put towels down on the floor there.

On that point, I used to wonder why people had shoe racks in their closets, and figured they must be carrying them to and from the front door. It never even occurred to me that they'd wear their shoes indoors and then take them off/put them on in the closet!

I only wash my towels once or twice a week as well. We have lots of them, so no need to wash them every day.

Maybe they should have a campaign to get women to cut their hair shorter. Think of all the environmental savings! Blowdryer usage (electricity), towels (water and pollution due to detergent), shampoo (all those tiny little plastic bottles that get used and then tossed)

I try to live green. Recycle, towels/sheets for a week at home. Cold water wash. Turn the thermostat down. On and on.

When I check into a luxury hotel I take a vacation in every sense and gleefully throw my towels in the floor and want fresh sheets each day. No guilt. Kind of like eating. Everything in moderation with an occasional splurge.

Rooms at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas have the standard "Help us conserve energy. Please turn off all lights when you leave" sign on the door. I was glad to do my part as I walked through the hotel past rows of 24/7 glaring, clanging, ringing and flashing slot machines and down the Las Vegas strip.

Glad to hear you did your part, did you also leave a few dollars in the slots to cover electrical use of the machines?

I reuse the towels also. Don't wear shoes indoors ( as far as I know, no asian roots in my family tree). In the hotel I will reuse towels if I shower more than once a day. I do not mind the signs, but how about reducing the use of disposable plates, utensils etc.

**** like this just pisses me off. Those make a green choice cards make me boil.

Just tell it as it is "we're trying to make more money by reducing costs". Instead of this saving the earth bull.

Why? Because if we're trying to save this planet, why did they print the vouchers....on paper??

I'm glad to see we have a concerned citizen who looks out for others.

Now about that dripping faucet in my former room that is wasting water that could otherwise be used on fountains, swimming pools, fake streams and other such things.......
