A tree falls in the forest.
No one to hear it.

A person shows off his iPad.
No one to perceive it as showing off.

I am definitely getting out the iPad and Bose noise canceling headphones. It has nothing to do with showing off. It helps the time seem to pass faster if I am watching a movie or reading & listening to music, both of which I do on my iPad.

Have some sympathy, OP. A guy with all sorts of wires handing out from him is not trying to show off. He's just on life support.

If one's lucky, one's wireless

Personally I don't think it's showing off but I do always find it funny when people have all the "expensive" gadgets because they want the "best" of everything but yet they still take photos on their phones because they don't have a camera

Why do people show off with their gadgets?

In maui the kids have a ball showing off their wrist bands for entry to the Grand Wailea pools
( best elaborate pools in maui)
Their tiny wrists and arms are the holders for the multicolored wrist bands
It's fun
Maybe the electronics guy is just a big kid at heart.
No harm in that to me!

What does it say that you think a $500 iPad is some kind of luxury item?

I believe the OP found it annoying when you have constantly someone who just can't sit without getting up every now and then for trivial/unnecessary disturbances to others.

A medical reason is understandable, but electronic gadgets, not to me.
Back in the old days people used to bear it for others sake, people used to be considerate. Now its all "i have the right to....i have an entitlement to...'

One more thing to make flying a bit more uncomfortable when you got inconsiderate people.

Nobody would be envious of me. I think they'd pity me. I like to read PAPER books when on a plane. Paper!

The answer to your question will be found in this book.

It can be fairly dense reading, but one of those books that after you have read it you are glad you did.

I doubt it's showing off...there is a tendency towards too much gadgetry these days, but on most of my flights I'll have my Macbook out to do work, and because iPhones have such terrible battery life, it'll be charging from one of the USB ports. If it's an evening flight or I just want to relax, I'll often be watching a film on an iPad. As an amateur pilot, I'll sometimes have my Garmin Aera device just to see how we're flying along!

I remember when mobile phones were new, rare and expensive. You'd have someone on the train or bus having a loud conversation on the phone making sure the whole carriage knew. And then the phone would ring!

Some people, unfortunately, are still like that but at least now they use the speaker so you can hear both sides of the conversation
