We are going to be transitioning to a kind of passport with the biodata info in a sort of page that is more frequently found with EU passports. That is coming along with this page insert elimination transition. The driver: "security". And sooner or later, the costs for our passports will increase because of this change as the production costs of the new passport type will be higher than for the current U.S. passport type.
I'm going to get two sets of additional pages installed rather soon in a rather new full-duration passport, and I will likely do the same with a 2-year validity secondary ordinary passport.
I hope we don't transition to a five-year standard validity period for all adult passports anytime in my lifetime, but paranoia in the government and amongst contractors pushing sales is so rampant that I wouldn't be surprised to be eventually subject to such a change too.
The era of very big US passports is coming to an end. After next year, your passports won't ever again be anywhere as close to as thick as the ones pictured in this thread.
