Hi all, I have booked a flight with return to Copenhagen next month, but will be traveling all over Europe. My return flight to NY on KLM originates in Copenhagen at 10:10AM, with a layover in Amsterdam, before I fly back to NYC.

The days preceding my return will be spent in Prague, and my best option of getting from Prague to Copenhagen for my flight back home, is a Czech Airlines flight that leaves Prague at 7:10AM, and reaches Copenhagen at 8:30AM.

My question is, will that 1 hour and 40 minutes be enough of a layover time? I will not be checking in any luggage, so I will not need to collect any from the carousel. Will I be passing through passport control in Copenhagen since my final destination is New York, or will I just be getting off of my flight from Prague and onto my flight to Amsterdam since it is all inter-Schengen, and then going through passport control in Amsterdam.

Side note: KLM and Czech Airlines both utilize Copenhagen Terminal 2, so I will not need to transfer terminals.

If you are on two separate tickets, that is cutting it close, since KLM has no duty to rebook you if you miss your flight. Normally that would be enough time, but if your flight is delayed, it might not be. even if you did have luggage, you can have your baggage checked through in Prague though, as Czech and KLM are partners. you may even be able to get your boarding pass in Prague, but probably not. You wont go through immigration until Amsterdam.
have you looked into just changing your ticket on KLM to PRG-AMS?

I haven't, I assume it would entail some sort of change fee. And although it would definitely be wise to hedge my potential losses by doing so, I am traveling on a student's budget. As for getting my boarding pass, I plan on checking in online and getting an electronic boarding pass on my mobile device, as this is allowed at Copenhagen.

It's a risk, then. Generally, I would allow at least 3 hours on two separate tickets.

If you want to be on the safe side, just take an evening flight from Prague to Copenhagen the day before your flight. It likely won't cut down on your sight seeing much and will ensure you make your connection.

A flight PRG-CPH + hotel in Copenhagen certainly cost more than the change fee. Copenhagen is a quite expensive city. I'd be surprised if just the flight itself isn't as much as the change fee. It sounds like the OP hasn't even looked into that, but it's likely in the range of $100-200 so unless it's a totally unchangable ticket then you're not saving much if anything by going all the way back to CPH to catch your original flight. You could easily be costing yourself a lot more though if something goes awry and KLM won't/can't reaccomodate you.

First thing I'd do is find out how much to change it and evaluate after that point.

1 hour and 40 minutes connecting Schengen-Schengen in CPH is normally plenty of time, there will be no passport control until you reach AMS. Having no checked luggage means you do not need to exit landside to check-in, check in can be done online (i.e. whilst still in PRG). In the worst case scenario you would need about 20 minutes in the terminal at CPH (For walking between A and C gates). The Czech Airlines flight is out of its hub in the morning and the flight in May so I'd say that the risk of a delay that would make you miss the CPH-AMS flight is quite small.

Thanks for all the responses. Whenever work gets less busy and get a chance, I plan on calling KLM/Delta and finding out what the change fee would be. I infact did look into the option suggested but, like you said, a flight to Copenhagen the day before, plus staying in Copenhagen, which can be prohibitively expensive, was definitely a turn off.

Although I will also be asking the agent at KLM/Delta later today, does anyone know if I buy the ticket with Czech Airlines, if they would be willing to merge it to my existing reservation, since KLM, Delta, and Czech are all SkyTeam partners?

No it's not possible to merge a separate reservation. The best you can ask them to do is cross reference the PNRs, but that doesn't do anything to protect you if you're delayed/cancelled for some reason out of PRG, it just lets the KL agent in CPH know why you're not there when she's calling your name over and over for final call if they bother to look at all.

01:40 is more than enough time in Copenhagen, minimum you'll need as it's intra-Schengen without luggage is 25 minutes. There are no passport checks, no additional security and Copenhagen is a very efficient transit airport. Worst that can happen is you'll arrive at an A20ish gate and depart from a D gate, which is a 600-700 meter walk. But chances are both flights will be from the A-gates, and then your only worry will be what to do with the an hour and 30 minutes of waiting time.

Hi. Did almost the same connection twice now - as others have stated you have plenty of time. I even had some spare time to catch some food.
