[QUOTE=dabigdawg;20079659]I'll be honest.. i don't understand tipping. Why are we SUPPOSED to tip? And why only at sit down restaurants?/QUOTE]

Tipping grew up as positive reinforcement for the effort put in to give good service. It is far more pleasant and less confrontation to reward good service than it is to verbally berate someone for bad service.

I still like what a group of Geeks did awhile back when they got together. They each put in like $ 7.00 each in $ 1.00 bills in a big pile in the middle of the table. They told the waitress whatever is left when we finish is yous. But every time we have a problem, have to ask for a refill or whatever. We are going to take back a $ 1.00 or $ 2.00. Sometimes when they had good service, there was a lot left. Other times there was nothing. But it acted as a gauge on how well the service was going.

I still say "It is my Money & I will tip what I want to" (Think of the JG Wentworth Commericals)

Certainly not the only one, if you don't discount extralegal options.

Not Geeks, Aliens. It was an episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Well I'm glad we've cleared that up.

Hee, well we've established it plainly isn't a science. I wouldn't classify it as a skill. So that leaves it as an art in my book. Mind you, art in the sense of artful and not in the sense of anyone would build a monument to the world's greatest tipper.
