e-Certificate of Unknown Origin?
MODS: please move this to a more correct subforum if there is one; I couldnt find a better place.
I have a $1k e-Certificate in one of my airline accounts and I don't know how it got there.
My employer books all my travel and they have my FF#s on file and add them to every ticket.
I don't regularly check my FF account, so I don't know for certain when it posted, but the $1k does expire in March of 2013. It's not exactly $1k but it's close and has an odd number of cents.
I have a few guesses as to how I got this certificate. At the risk of sounding unethical, I don't want to jinx it and ask them because I would very much like to use it for personal travel.
Guesses:
1) The airliner screwed up and credited my account with it for no reason
2) My employer canceled a client trip after my flight was booked and an e-Ticket was issued (which they did do a few months ago), and for whatever reason, the "credit" for the trip went to my FF account rather than back to my company-- perhaps because it was a non-refundable flight or something to that affect?
3) The airline gave them to me because they canceled one of my flights due to (a) inclement weather that forced me to travel the following day or (b) "President O" closing down OHare Airport last summer for several hours and canceling my flight by one day. Both of these happened to me, and maybe they gave me a credit without telling me, to apologize.
I am leaning towards Option 2 as the likely verdict (employer refunded a ticket but it went to me).
The credit has been in my account for at least 3 months, since thats when I first noticed it.
I work at a large consulting firm and we have many hundreds of flights each day. My company re-bills the travel expenses to the client.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Two suggestions:
1) Contact the airline and your travel dept and ask them to investigate. If the e-cert was issued in error I'm sure they'll be appreciative of your diligence. They'll tell you why the e-cert was issued and take appropriate action.
2) Sit back and marvel at the wonders of the universe.

I suggest you ask about it. If the airline screwed up and credited it to you instead of the company, then the company's auditors may discover the discrepancy and this will cause problems for you. It's highly unlikely that the airline would give you a credit without telling you what it's for, unless you misplaced their letter.

I would seriously have them track it down. The last thing you want to do is to use it for your personal travel, and then have them figure out where it went and come take it back.
Call the airline and ask them for the details of the certificate. Tell them you bill back to clients, and you want to make sure you get the billing right or whatever if you want.
