Luggage tags

Where do you Put yours? Whether they be EC blue, Cathay Gold or Amex Platinum.

Do you use them?

If so on checked in bags or carry on?

Why?

Both Admiral Club and standard bag tags go on the handle.

Do you use them?

Yes

If so on checked in bags or carry on?

Both

Why?

On carry-on in the unlikely event that it is gate checked. On both so that the airline knows to whom they belong if lost.

I use the cheapie paper ones supplied by airlines. They get the job done and because I want my destination address on the baggage in case it gets lost on the along the way. I can put my "away" address on the outbound and my "home" address on the inbound. I also had metal name tags with leather straps made up and attach them to both checked and carry-on luggage so that a name can be associated with the bags in case the paper ones fail. Nothing will prevent one's bags from going missing is someone in the right place at the right time wants them to go missing.

Luggage TAGS

One should always put NAME and CONTACT on the outside of the BAG as well as INSIDe the bag. IN the event your bag has to be checked for some reason it can be identified. Luggage tags have been know to get caught and ripped off via luggage belts. In this case if the airline has to go inside an unloced bag it will do so to try to find out the owners name and contact. I have done it many times when a bag comes to the baggage office with no contact. If you choose to use the airline supplied tags replace them often. I have a plastic tag I got for a buck and I slip my business card inside. I also have this INSIDE my bag. If you are a road warrior and you lose your bag having this info will get your back back to you ASAP.

I just got some of these and other than one of the split rings being a bit small for what I had to mount it to I like them. They survived one trip without a mark on them, something I've never seen happen with other tags. The only rigid parts of them are fairly tough metal and right next to the suitcase, I think they'll hold up much better than the usual plastic backing with a plastic tether.

Also, from the outside they just look like a name tag. There are two pockets inside the tag that hold pieces of paper the size of a standard address label. (Note: If you print address labels and stick them to something align them carefully, you've got to be almost perfect or they won't fit.)

I've got papers in there with addresses at both end minus the street address--but if you pull the paper out there's another copy of the address with a street address. No bad guy checking tags in the airport is going to find that copy.
